Would you ladies be interested in an online baby shower?

I have to say upfront, this is not something I had planned to organize, so I hope someone will want to step up and take charge - I can still help arrange any subforums or stickies that would be required.

And I don't have the money to participate.

So here is a little pole to see who would be interested in a shower. If we get a resounding "YES" then we will go from there!

one suggestion I do have is that everyone who participates is required to donate $1 for a "no show" gift. Just in case some one can't follow through with a gift.

Then afterwards the money collected could be returned or donated to a charity.

the participants would be paired with someone to send a gift to.

there would need to be voting on price, deadline and the like. we would also need to set rules for x amount of posts and such...

I voted no just because I think at this point I need to save my money wherever possible! Sounds fun though!

I've seen these done on other ddcs and they seem like lots of fun! I found this on Google, it is a virtual baby shower for JustMommies July 2011 ddc. It looks like lots of fun!

We did this in my dd's DDC and it was a lot of fun. I am definitely in And even if there isn't a huge group, we can always do a signup for those that want to - and still do it.

I'm going to have to say no. In my other PR, I participate in card exchanges, but I never have extra money to participate in the gifts.

What are the dollar limits usually like? I am interested but don't want to have to spend a crazy amount.

I think the last one i did the max amount was $15, MAYBE $20. I was from a large DDC and only one person did not get her gift. The person dropped off the face of the earth so not terrible odds. This is something people really have to commit to so its fair.

The set limit could be whatever we wanted. And if we wanted to go cheaper - the June DDC is doing a onesie swap/shower. So that is also something to do.

Personally I love buying baby gifts and getting, so lol!

I don't think it's a bad idea, but the limit would have to be $10-$15 and keep in mind shipping isn't cheap either.

I like the card exchange idea.

We did this in the April 2010 DDC and it was a blast. The max amount was like...twenty bucks maybe...anyways, lots of people shopped on line where there would be free shipping. It was lots of fun.

I don't mind putting this together. I did it for a DDC with my DD2. I remember another momma who (I can't find the PM) a while ago who offered to help out too.

The one I ran you signed up with a $20 gift including shipping. Must be new with tags. When you sign up it's done like the due date buddies was. You send a PM with your shipping information and your registry information or a 'wish list' or any other specifications. I.E. GENDER, climate, NO blankets please, needing socks! etc. or "anything goes". Once your secret gifter is chosen you will receive their shipping information and their 'wish list'.

The "receiving" end of it can be done in one of 2 ways either you ship when you are ready and the momma then posts a pic of the gift with a thank you or on one occasion I have seen mommas wait till one specific day to all open them and post their pics and thank-yous. Personally I prefer the open when you get it so you don't pack it away and forget about it (guilty!)

There is a deadline set- usually a month before Due dates so everyone can get their gift before babies arrive.

I've never used the donation idea but I think it is a good one, alternatively we could also have another momma or two offer to give 2 gifts if it does turn out someone doesn't receive one. Considering this PLEASE make sure you fully intend to participate if you sign up.
