I'm sitting here a wreck, please excuse my spelling mistakes.

I called the office back, I'm glad I did, I was sitting around waiting for a call that wasn't going to come.

They won't write me a referral for anything, they don't do that. They recommend an office that is 2hours away from me for maternal-fetal medicine. I can't do that. DH is already on thin ice with his boss over all these appointments.

So I would have to find a primary care doctor (we are still fairly new to the area and haven't needed a PCP), schedule an appointment there, drive the hour there for a check up, to get a referral, then schedule an appointment.

I guess I will just keep the follow up I already have scheduled. Why did they offer a referral to me if they won't actually write one?

maybe this isn't such a big deal, but I am really not used to this. my midwife in NJ bent over backwards to make sure I had the best care. This office doens't a flying crap. This is total crap.

I am sorry. That really sucks that they weren't even going to call you back to let you know that they wont write a referral. I hate it when a doctor's office treats people poorly. There really isn't any excuse for that at all.

That office is crazy!!! So the one that they recommend...that's still not a referral, right? or is it? Can you drive there without your husband?

I'm sorry! It really sounds like they're not treating you the way they should. The one that's an hour away is not an option then?

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time with your office! It just sounds like they are really treating your terribly! Do you think they are going to treat you this way through delivery? I can't imagine an office that is so pro VBAC treats people so horrible.....

Is it too late for you to look elsewhere?

sorry, I should clarify, we live in a different state than what our insurance is in. I have to drive an hour to see any doctor. The closest maternal fetal medicine doctor that they DON'T recommend is 90 minutes away. As is the midwife office I am seeing.

a recommendation is just a recommendation, my insurance won't cover a specialist without a referal paper.

I really can't do it with out DH. I don't city drive and all these places are on the outskirts of washington D.C. and there is no way I'd be able to handle the children and get anything done at the appointment.

I don't have any childcare, or babysitters.

This office was my last resort, it is the only one in the quadstate area that does VBACs and accepts my insurance.

I am not at all confident they aren't going to bully me into a c/s. I feel I will be on my own with this.

None of this is helping my already high blood pressure.

Ugh, I am sorry That office is just terrible. It is awful that you are basically stuck there seeing them. I wish there were some other way! I guess all you can really do is hope for the best. I certainly hope things get better as far as the whole midwife/prenatal care issue goes.

Okay that makes more sense Ami, and I apologize for asking this if you have mentioned it before, but I think I missed it, what do you need to see a specialist for that they wont offer you the referal for?

Will the insurance company call them for you? Or can you conference in your insurance company on a 3 way call with the Dr. office?

No problem Danielle

My oldest was born with a heart defect, I saw a peri in conjunction with my m/w last time to make sure his heart was ok, and to keep an eye on fluid levels.

The ultrasound we had last week was so fuzzy he couldn't tell if the heart had 4 chambers. his best assumption was that it has 2 sides. That isn't acceptable. And the baby is measuring small - what if it is because of a heart issue?

I am feeling a little better after throwing off some steam on FB! HAH!

I am going to call my insurance and clarify if I do actually need a referral or not. I was pretty sure we did need one.

Will your husband stick up for you in the delivery room if they try to?
Will any other support person help stick up for you during delivery?

yes my hubs is 100% on my side, I was finally able to talk to him and I am feeling a lot better. I really think I freaked more because of how my mother is - she doesn't understand why I don't want another c/s, she wasn't supportive last time either.

It would be easier if she wasn't constantly telling me that they know best and I need to trust them implicitly. so for now, I need to tune her out.

I'm sorry, Ami! I really do hope that somehow this whole situation will turn out the best for you. Is there any way you can have the dr that actually did the U/S be the one to call you and talk? Maybe you can reason with him in getting the referral set up. You said you liked him otherwise, maybe he'll be more kind in working with you and getting you to a peri.

Hugs!! sorry you're dealing with all this crap. it sucks being so far away!! With your previous son with a heart defect have they considered a fetal echo? It doesn't sound like they are treating you very fairly as is let alone in the delivery room wanting a VBAC :/ Maybe it would be more beneficial to talk directly with the doctor rather than the nurse/receptionist person. Hope it works out for you momma!

that is what is so weird Jenna, when we were there last week the doctor asked me if we were going to want a referral for a fetal echo, I told him, I was waiting to make the decision based on what we saw at that sono. We didn't see much, now that I want the referral they "don't" do them?

I am getting different stories from everyone.
