This is just for anyone reading who was googling/researching anterior placentas etc like I was when I first found out and was worried about not feeling movement.

I'm 19weeks with my first, anterior placenta, slim/normal build and I started feeling what I thought were flutters at 16weeks, only to dismiss it as a mistake when told by u/s operator that my placenta position meant I wouldnt feel baby til much later. I thought I felt some kicking at the start of 18weeks but again dismissed it as it didnt noticeably repeat. Then at 18weeks 6days I felt very undeniable kicks start that I could feel from the outside that have been off and on since then, with more consistent tapping/fluttering in between, tho there are periods where it either stops, becomes less noticeable due to strength/location of movement, or I am so active I am not in a position to notice it. However if I lay on my back/or sit in a reclining position and wait with my hands on my lower abdomen I can usually feel her kicking. I feel it more predominantly on one side, so that may be due to there being less concentration of placenta on that side, tho I have felt the movements all over at one stage or another. I think if anyone reading this article is disappointed at having an anterior placenta, dont despair, trust your own feelings and take the time to sit and close your eyes and concentrate on what you feel, you may not feel it for a while (there may be other factors that delay it) but if you think you feel something, however slight, allow yourself to believe what you are feeling.
And dont let it stop you from talking to belly if you havent felt movement yet - your little one can still hear you in your second trimester!

I was recently told I have an anterior placenta this time around too! Glad you posted this. I swear I felt with my DD the first movements very early (around 14 to 15 weeks) but this time I was wondering when I would feel anything! I do think I felt something around 16 weeks as well. I know I did becuase that is what I felt with DD. My DH has a harder time this time around feeling movements from the outside but as of recently ( I am almost 21 weeks) we both have felt movement. We talk to DS to be all the time and are thrilled having an anterior placenta isnt harming to him. So I am right here with ya!!!

I had an anterior placenta with my daughter and it was discovered at my second prenatal appt at about 12 weeks when they couldnt find a heartbeat..I freaked out..because I thought I had a missed miscarriage. They did an ultrasound and thats when it was discovered..no wonder they couldnt hear her..LOL.I never had trouble feeling the baby move though..I have an anterior placents this time but its positioned just so and they are able to hear my baby just fine..thank goodness because my husband can't go with me to my appts as we don't have close family or friends to watch our kids..

I have an anterior placenta too but starting this week i have felt the baby everyday about every two hours and am feeling him from the outside so I think he has just gotten strong enough to kick me through the placenta ... man does it make me feel better to feel him kick around in there!!

I have an anterior placenta this time and the only difference is that baby isn't kicking my herniated belly button (thank goodness!!) I still feel him tons. First time moms also may not feel baby till later because they don't know what they're feeling till it really kicks in. I was 19 weeks with DD1 and underweight. Healthy weight with 2 and angel and felt around 16 weeks and this one around 15. Hang in there! Soon you'll be asking them to sleep and not wake you kicking your organs

I also have anterior placenta, and am feeling regular movement, but not nearly as strong as it was with my other kids, and it took forever to finally feel something this time.

Thank you for this post. I have a an anterior placenta as well and have thought I feel little flutters n stuff here and there since 14 weeks, but not often and not very strong. The past few days I have felt a little more, but the movements still not strong. I cannot wait to feel him more! Thank you though for the advice and it made me feel like I really am feeling him because I was doubting it.
