I watched this movie yesterday. I thought it was very interesting and even some what empowering. It is disturbing the way many women are made to feel powerless when it comes to childbirth. Many times we are treated as if we have no rights at all in the process. Procedures are often done simply because the doctor or hospital think it would make things quicker and easier for them. I highly recommend seeing this movie if you haven't already.

Have you seen this movie?

What did you think of it?

I did see it a few years ago when I was planning my first VBAC, and yes, it was eye opening, and so much of what happened to me with my first seemed to fit in with what they were saying...

I watched it on Netflix before I was pregnant, and was blown away. I'd like to watch it again now that I actually AM pregnant, so I can feel that "empowerment" and stand up for some of the things I want later on. I haven't talked to my doctor at ALL about ANYTHING yet, which I think is kind of irresponsible of me! I'm gonna need to know what her stance is on everything I ask for.

Can I admit that I'm a bit scared to watch it?? The whole laboring process FREAKS me out, I don't know what I'm going to do in September!

However, I do WANT to watch it, just not quite there yet. Maybe I will put it on my queue soon...

I'm very pro natural birth however I found this movie COMPLETELY DISGUSTING. Let me explain. It focused explicitly on why natural is best. Yes it did show a momma deliver a preterm baby in hospital and showed "acceptance" for it but still went on and on about how bad interventions are. It gives the wrong impression that (as the specialist said) If you Didn't deliver naturally you and your baby were not going to bond as well. (He compared it us to monkeys and if you don't get that hormonal release from a natural birth you wont bond right like in nature) complete crap. It also went on and on about how one intervention leads to another etc. How c-sections are on the rise. Well yes, but did you know that in many states C-sections are actually sought after!! People FIGHT for them to be in their own schedules and not deal with harsh labor. I am ALL for natural childbirth and I WISH I were granted the opportunity for them. However, my body and my babies would not be able to and like SO many other mommas had it not been for these interventions me and my babies would all be dead. Yes interventions are on the rise and yes natural is fabulous but it doesn't make you "less human" to have interventions. At the end of the day whatever gets me a living baby is all I ask for!!!!!!

I 100% agree that there are definitely times when intervention is completely necessary!! I just don't agree with interventions that are not necessary and meant to just make things easier for the doctor/OB/hospital etc. I do think it is ridiculous for women to schedule a c-section for the reasons you pointed out. I do not feel like interventions make a woman "less human" or "less womanly" in any event.

The ultimate goal is most definitely a healthy baby and mother!! Women should not be made to feel they have no rights or no say in the birth of their children. Out of the 4 children I have already had; only 2 were "all natural", but I never thought of the other 2's birth as anything less than beautiful as well

It is very true that there are many times when intervention is truly a blessing!!!

Sorry if I come off a bit brash but this 'documentary' in its one sided nature irks the hellokitty out of me. I DREAM of a natural home water birth but it is just not possible. and ANY "educated film" that states I am less of a mother or will love my child less because I was not ABLE to get that completely natural child birth is just bug crap to me.

I actually don't care about having a natural childbirth at all...I had to have an emergency c-section with my daughter and will probably have a scheduled c this time (unless she comes early)...I would have rather have had a natural childbirth from the getgo but since it didn't happen and my abdomen is already cut-up, I want to protect my girly parts since they are already intact. lol
