Have you ladies noticed with any of your pregnancies that your waters have a "smell"? I have been leaking CM and urine this entire pregnancy. However, last night I noticed that when I went to the bathroom my undies had a much different smell and different fluid. Alright, the TMI part...it completely reminded me of the smell of semen...weird, right? Hubby and I haven't DTD in months, so I know it wasn't from that. I also know that my waters haven't fully ruptured, as it was just a little trickle of fluid here and there. I am soooo confused. Could my bag of waters just have a slow leak? LOL!! Or, do I just have funky smelling fluid now? Sheesh!!!! I don't remember this with my other 2 pregnancies. Thanks for your input.

I noticed the same smell yesterday! I thought that maybe it was my sweat & I'd worn my pants too long or something.... but I had the same thing happen yesterday.
I didn't notice any different discharge or anything... but it was weird.

I was going to post the same question! My CM has been more watery, and a sweeter smell...kinda like semen, too. It started earlier this week. So, I was also wondering...could this be amniotic fluid? Or just a change in CM?

Me too, I too have had a "wet" pregnancy with lots of CM and leaking urine, have had to wear pantyliners from around 20 weeks and was checked in hospital to make sure it wasn't my amniotic fluids, and then at my placental location scan they did another big check on my waters to be sure.

And then this last 2 weeks ish, I've had an increase in discharge, and I would say a change in consistency - it looks *TMI alert* pale yellow on the pantyliner, but if it gets onto my knickers if the liner slips etc it looks white, so I'm assuming it's leukorrhea (sp?) - normal discharge towards the end of pregnancy. And yes, it smells sweeter, semen-ish. I'm going to mention it to the MW on Wednesday (heck I have a list as long as my arm to mention to her this Wednesday ).

It's 6 years ago but I seem to remember the smell being different to this when my water actually broke with Daniel, almost sickly sweet, it wasn't like semen.

From time to time i get that smell and always think it's weird, but i guess the human body uses similar natural chemicals to make it's fluids....
I found my amniotic fluid during labor last time to be light yellow - wheaty in color, with little bits in, and a sweet smell, not at all like semen though (which i dont think is sweet smelling to me lol)

My amniotic fluid last time was clear and like a stickyish consistency, not like the discharge I'm getting now.

So, what does it mean if you're leaking amniotic fluid? Anything?

Me too! Me too! I don't think it's fluid though. This is more of a watery discharge ...I think! Sometimes it looks like I wet myself and I don't even realize it. I'm always in the shower now, and no, it isn't sweat! LOL!

It doesn't always mean anything if you just have a small leak. Your body replenishes the amniotic fluid daily and as long as there's plenty still around the baby and the leaking waters are colourless and not strong-smelling, chances are you'd be ok (though you would need to get checked out and might have to go on bed rest or have antibiotics). If however your waters go with a big gush as they do for some people, most doctors will want to deliver within around 48 hours because of the risk of infection.
