Little William has had thrush for a while, we tried waiting to see if it would clear up on its own but it hasn't. Everyone we've asked said to treat it with Gentian Violet. I've researched it online and everyone said to use a 1% solution of GV. We went to our local pharmacy and all they have is a 2% solution and basically refused to dilute it because he said he didn't recommend it for babies and told us to talk to our doctor to get nystatin. Everything I've read said Nystatin doesn't really work. What should I do? I can order a 1% sol online. I don't want to do anything to hurt him but I have to do something because he's becoming reluctant to breastfeed.

Hello....visiting from the may playroom. My little Sofia had thrush forever! We did three rounds of nystatin and it didn't work. Doctor finally put her on fluconozle(sp?) and it finally cleared up after two rounds. Md said gentian violet was only a last resort and if we did end up doing that it would be done right in his office.....glad we didn't get that far! Good luck!
*Thank you AlexKatieAidenMommy for my awesome siggie*
That's interesting your doc said that about the genetian violet. I never consulted a MD with things in regaurds to breastfeeding, but the G.V. was what my LC suggested for possible thrush with my previous DS.
