I pump and breast feed the regular way for my daughter. When I pump I can only produce about 4-5 ounces per session between both breasts...she gets full and I do this about every 3 to 4 hours. But I'm worried that it should be more. What will I do when she needs more? I'm one week and a day postpartum so will I get more?

I'd say if you're able to pump 4-5 oz right now and she's only a week old, you're doing just fine. I pump and am only able to get between 2-3oz per session. Taryn is almost 3 weeks old and she generally takes about 3 oz each feeding.

Ok that's reassuring. I sure I hope I can keep up with her. Thanks!

Sounds to me like you're doing really well. Summer is 5 weeks and I still only get 2-3oz per session... for the longest time I was only getting 1.5oz-2oz... I'm just now getting up to 3oz. I mainly nurse though, just pump once a day to try to build a stash... I'm not sure if that matters any

Lurking from Dec... I pumped and bottle-fed my last one out of necessity and your numbers sound great. If you find you need more, pump more often. It's a pain but it will help. Your supply should grow as she grows. Good luck! Beautiful baby, btw

I don't know in oz as am calculating in ml. I get 90-120ml per session, the 120ml ones tend to be evening or night time. I am 1 week post partum. Michaela is a hungry (and large) baby so I had to up the amount of times I was expressing to train my body to make more and it's finally starting to step up to the plate. I am slightly supplementing with formula as well though, on some of the feeds where she only has 90ml of breast milk, otherwise she's not satisfied.

Do you express during the night between 2-4am? The midwives have told me that's the best time due to your hormone levels and I do find I get a bigger haul so to speak at that time. I don't set an alarm or anything, just do it if I'm up feeding her or up for the toilet or a drink, which most nights I am sometime between 1-5am.

Thanks guys. I feel better now. And I breastfeed and pump...she does both. I pump about 3 times a day. I didn't know that about pumping late at night. I will try that. Normally I try to pump in advance for night time feeds.
