Anyone else have experience with this? After both of my births I've passed pieces of placenta around 2 weeks postpartum. I seem fine. Bled heavily for awhile, but now back to normal. I'm wondering why this happens.

Are you sure its placenta and not just large blood clots? i passed very large blood clots until about 2 week pp. And didnt your midwife check to make sure the placenta was intact after delivery? i know mine did.

Around 2-3 weeks pp your body sheds the scab from where your placenta was. It's very clotty and VERY gross. It often gets mistaken for retained placenta.

its possible if the scab is made of tissue rather than blood clot. It was large enough I had to push it out. (diameter of a baseball, about 1 inch thick) And was grey and pink and a few other colors. Passed lots of clots since then.

That sounds delightful, Alice!

I had retained placenta when I lost my first baby. Unfortunately my cervix closed before it came out, so I had to have a doctor pull it out (literally grab the tiny piece that was sticking out of my cervix and pull it out). It was so bloody painful Hope things settle down for you soon.

Did you see your placenta after you birthed? Some care providers will go over it with the patient to confirm that it is in tact.

no i never saw the placenta. I ended up in extreme pain last night and got seen this morning. Whatever it was, I have a uterine infection and am now on antibiotics and percocet. This is worse than labor.

I'm just thanking my lucky stars that my OB was on call today. Otherwise i would have been at the mercy of whoever and probably in the hospital. So glad i get a shot at healing at home. i was in tears thinking of leaving Cora.
