Ok, she's a month old today and I'm just now getting around to writing the birth story due to the stress of her being in the NICU the 1st week and a half of life and then not having a computer for a while. So here it is.
I was laying in bed with Eric watching Golden Girls...he didn't appreciate that, but he was playing his game so it didn't matter what he thought! I started feeling contractions, but figured they were just braxton hicks again. They weren't any closer than about 10-15 minutes apart.
Walked over to my mom and stepfather's room in tears from the contractions that were still going on. After waiting about 10 minutes the contractions started coming back to back. We headed for the hospital.
Arrived at the hospital, in pain, dumba** nurse asked me how I was doing. haha. She put me in the room and told me I couldn't have my epidural until they confirmed that I was in labor.
(Went to the bathroom and vomited twice before they came back in and actually confirmed I was in labor)
I finally got my epidural, but I wanted to punch the anestesiologist in the face after she was 1. ignorant to me and 2. a total b**** to Eric for simply standing up.
The Dr came in and told me that it's time to start the delivery process. Eric holding one leg, my mother holding the other, and my stepfather standing at the head of the bed so as not to see anything (lol), I started pushing.
Athena was born!! 7 lbs 10 oz 21 inches long with black hair and blue eyes!!
The Dr and nurse did their thing and I told them I wanted Eric to be the first to hold her. We were so proud! He held her for a few minutes and then I breastfed her.
I loved my Dr and once I had my epidural, I had NO problems. LOL. He told me that it tends to wear off at the end, but nope, I was fully covered until he went to stitch me up from the episiotomy. When I was taken to my room after delivery, they took Athena for her bath and whatever else they had to do and Eric followed and stayed with her. After a long wait, a nurse came in to tell me that she was taken to the NICU for observation.
The next day was when I found out that she was going to be staying, and I hadn't seen her again until that morning. I was heartbroken and terrified.
I don't really want to tell the NICU story because it still upsets me pretty bad when I think of seeing her in there and the way it made me feel. She was...and still is...the most beautiful thing I've ever seen!
