I'd say it's still the lochia as you can generally bleed on and off for 6 weeks I think. My bleeding is starting and stopping every few days.

Are you breastfeeding?

no, i had to switch to formula. even when i was breastfeeding though i basically breastfed once right after birth and then she was put in the nicu and i was pumping because she had to have a feeding tube for a while. then i breastfed probably 3 or 4 times total while she was still in the nicu after they took the feeding tube away. once she got home i tried a couple times but my milk supply wasn't what it was before and she wouldn't latch properly.

how do i know when i get my period that it's actually my period and not lochia?

I think there's a different smell to it. For me, lochia carries a bit of an odd, sweeter smell than regular period blood. But I agree that I think it's still lochia. When I was PP with my son, after the lochia I think I went 4-5 weeks no bleeding at all before I had a "normal" period.

Hmmm... if you aren't breastfeeding, then it could be your period!

I got my period back at 5 weeks postpartum with DD and I WAS BFing and pumping. It's definitely possible that it's your period. Especially if you aren't BFing.
