Are you starting to notice a difference yet in the noises baby makes when they want different things?

Or is it still very much guesswork?

He has 3 cries I recognize at this point:

- hungry - includes sucking on his arm if its near to his mouth (usually that's my first sign and it doesn't get to the crying stage) - these cries are longer in length
- diaper change - includes kicking his legs a lot - these are shorter in length and more urgent - he hates a poopy bum!
- want to be held - these I call his fake cries - you know those fake cries toddlers make? that's what this reminds me of - he usually does it lying in the pnp or hanging out on the nursing pillow

He doesn't really cry...
He has his one cry, when he does cry he WAILS!
That so far has been reserved when he's really hungry and I can't feed him right away.
Other than that he has this little whines he does, it's not really a cry, just a random little "wah" and that's when he's starting to get pissed, but before the crying
Then before that he just shakes his head back and forth kicks his feet throws his arms and makes sucking noises and huffs a lot and that's him fussy.
I don't make him wait if I can help it. If he starts rolling his tongue and smacking his lips I feed him right away. I don't like to make him cry.
I feel like I got lucky cause he really doesn't cry much at all.

When she's screaming and starts sucking on her arm, she's hungry. When she grunts/crying, she wants to be held. She doesn't cry for diaper changes.

The only time he cries so far is if he has gas or wants to eat. He certainly does grunt and moan and make a fuss if his diaper is wet or if he wants to be held. He actually POUTS when he wants to be held. He'll poke out his bottom lip and whimper- not actually cry, but you can hear a soft wimper and know that he's upset.

Emily has 2 cries. There's her hunger cry which is usually angry wailing that can evolve into violence (punching me with her little fists until she gets fed) and then there's her "Eh" short little cries that sound like a cat or a peacock. Those are usually her pouty cries when she wants attention or doesn't really know what she wants. She never cries when she needs to be changed. Other than that she grunts a lot, which is funny.

He only cries for two reasons generally, he's hungry or he's wet/uncomfortable - which is caused by diaper needing to be changed or spitting up all over himself.

However, yes I can tell his cries apart and his grunts and other sounds and whether he's just talking to himself or actually needs something is pretty easy to discern as well.

To Que - I've also experienced the whimper!! I almost laughed, it reminded me of my puppies.

Tuckr pouts too. It's the cutest dang thing. He also takes a swing or two if you wake him up before he's ready to get up.

Don't hate, but Pippa rarely cries. If she does, she just wants to eat. We waited years for baby like this!

Taryn cries & eats her hands like they are going out of style when she's hungry.
She used to scream bloody murder with a dirty/wet diaper, but then realized that meant she had to be naked which she REALLY hates, so I have to go by smell/blue line.

When she's fighting sleep or just wants some attention, she does this random "wah" like "Hey you! Pay attention to me!"

*laughs*

Summer has a fake cry that usually means she wants attention and her basic cry.... that means she wants food.... if I don't attend to her right away, due to something in my hands, or doing something that I just can't get to her RIGHT AWAY, her "normal" cry turns into a wail
