This is a hotline associated with the Infant Risk center that is dedicated to helping breastfeeding moms with medication questions. Serious, it's awesome. I have it saved in my phone and always call it before accepting meds at the doc.
If you feel a cold coming on, I would start trying to beat it before it starts: Increase your zinc and vitamin C intake (take something like Emergen C) and possibly take something like echinacea or colloidal silver. Your options are limited when it comes to cough meds and decongestants (decongestants won't hurt the baby, but it will lessen your milk supply by the nature of their function).
In glad you started this thread. I too have a cold or something like that coming on I have been just suffering through it, but of course I just NOW remember I have a huge gallon ziplock bag full of emergen c!
I was prescribed Motrin tho for pain...
With full knowledge that I'm breast feeding. I have never taken more than 2 in a day and I never take a whole one. I generally only take it if I absolutely am in pain.
My doctor said it would be fine just as long as I didn't take more than one in a 6 hour period.
