Okay so I go for my NST and she tells me that I have this...wth?? Never had this..my midwife seemed calm about it, like its nothing...but OF COURSE I come home and google it..which google is gonna be the death of me I swear...so of course I am freaking out now..
My thing is..I know that they treat you during labor..now wishful thinking here, say I am only in labor a few hours..is that safe for the baby, can't be gone that fast??
Sorry to bother you ladies..your all enjoying your sweet little babies and I'm whining..
Yes, I had it. Most hospitals have regulations that you receive antibiotics in labor, and if there is not enough time to give you the meds, then they give routine meds to your baby after they are born.
That being said, I had a home birth. Antibiotics are not an option with my midwife. After having done my research, I decided I did not want to do the meds anyways. I took probiotics, vitamin c, and an immunity booster. I chose to push and birth in the water to help dilute any virus that might still be present. There has been a lot of research to show that waterbirth is just as effective as antibiotics to reduce transmission of GBS to your baby. There is also this douche that you can do called hibiclense that can help clean your vagina before the baby is born.
Then after my baby was born, I did the wait and see approach. I had a list of symptoms that I was looking for to see if my baby had any problems. He's been totally fine. Great even. I also had a blood test done as a precaution to check his white blood cell count to make sure it was normal (it would be elevated if GBS was an issue).
I went into labor before my results came back. Therefore, I got the antibiotics even though I later found I was negative. The Penicillin burns in an IV too. That was the only part of my birth plan that was not want I wanted.
