Anyone have a money box or a savings jar to put loose change in for your owlet and/or older sibs?
Daniel has had a money box for a number of years since they started a savings scheme at school. He now has three in total! Michaela was given two by her Nan (Shaun's mum) and Aunt (Shaun's sister) when she was tiny. So we put a lot of loose change in their boxes.
Daniel spends his on days out and on holidays if he wants to buy a treat from the gift shops. But he likes having money IN the boxes as well and so is careful not to spend too much all at once!!
I need to get Cam one and start that. We have a pottery type hollow apple, and we used to throw our toonies and loonies in there and that's how we got our new TV/surround sound/TV stand when we lived in our apartment. Well, we bought it on credit, and paid it off with our apple! We need to start doing that again.
Xavier does have a piggy bank that I throw change into occasionally. I also opened him a savings account with a baby gift check someone gave me since I didn't have anything I needed to buy for him at that moment. Unfortunately due to regulations I can't see the account on my online banking so I can't periodically transfer a couple dollars here and there to it so it makes it extremely inconvenient to "help" build some savings. I feel kinda dumb having an account that just sits there with $30. I'm also kind of irritated because I wanted something that would build interest as little as it may be but I think they have us a non- interest bearing account.
All of my kids have them. Their gift money goes in there when they're small and have nothing that they need/want. Of course when they get older, they spend most of their gift money. We also put change in there some, and now that the older kids earn money, they put it in there a lot.
