Has anyone else heard there are new recommendations for introducing peanut butter after 6 months if there is no family history of an allergy?

What are your thoughts on this? Has anyone given PB yet?

I'm going for it. Tomorrow Ozzy is getting a bit of PB on his banana. I know I'll still keep it a really thin spread as I don't want the stickyness causing a choking hazard.

My son has a severe peanut allergy. We don't even have it in the house.

Interesting. We have no food allergies or sensitivities in our families that we know about but I'm probably still going to wait until a little closer to 1yr just for better handle on foods period. Or just see how it goes.

I've been debating. We have no history of allergies, and he's had other allergens without issue (eggs, fish...), I just haven't made the plunge yet! I eat pb almost every day, and he sometimes gets the edge where I haven't spread pb. Maybe he'll get a bit soon!

Tell us how he does!

I gave it to both babies and neither had any issues. I keep it pretty thin for Abby so it's not too sticky and hard to chew but otherwise, it's been fine.

We are waiting until 1 year for peanut butter, nuts, and eggs. DH and I arrest allergic, but DH is also adopted, so we don't have his full family history.

M already has a dairy intolerance, so I want to wait!

We don't have any allergies here but I don't want to take a chance.

My pediatrician said that the only thing I have to avoid is honey.

With a history of allergies, it is wise to wait, of course. We have allergies, but it's only to acidic fruit.

We have some food intolerances in our family (no peanut allergy to our knowledge though) so are waiting until 1yr for all those "should I shouldn't I" type foods.

Ava's ped says the same as Pippa's. though she's not had pb since I don't eat it much so I don't think to give it to her. DH and I have no food allergies, so I haven't delayed any other "allergy" foods.

the family history thing seems to be a myth. My husband, myself, and our families have no food allergies, but my son is allergic to peanuts, treenuts, and eggs.

I waited with my older girls because that was the cool thing to do then. Sarah got ahold of a peanut butter cracker the other day and had no issues. I'm not sur eI will deliberately give it to her but I'm not going to worry if she has some.

I give him peanut butter now and have so since we started feeding him real food. I mix it in with other food. He is fine. We basically have no food allergies in my family so I am not concerned.

None here...yet. But she had macadamia nuts from the bread pudding I made. She was fine.

Her sister shared part of her pb&j sandwich with her a few weeks ago when there was nothing I could do about it.. And she was fine. She's since had small bites with peanut butter on it with No issues.

Our pediatrician worked on this study. It is based on the fact that peanut allergies are actually much lower in countries like Israel and others, and when they ran the tests it was chalked up to the fact that those countries expose children very early to peanuts through a peanut candy they give babies as well as some sauce on a meat dish that includes nuts. That somehow us waiting 2 years is actually not mattering at all, and perhaps even making it worse. I haven't pushed my luck and given Millie peanuts yet but my husband gave peanut butter to Mason very early when I was on a business trip once because he didn't know the rules, and I F-R-E-A-K-E-D but he was fine. Knock on wood we've been fairly lucky with food allergies. Mason has an intolerance to strawberries (red butt) and dairy (eczema) and Millie to dairy (eczema) and citrus oil (face rash)..............but those are not life threatening and very manageable.

Long story short, undecided on whether or not I will still wait 2 years like I did with my son! (who still prefers sunbutter since we always used sunflower seed butter)

Ok we did it this morning. All is well and he seemed to really like it. I did end up spreading it just thinly on some banana chunks .
