So, yeah, that was said to me at the gym this morning....ugh....DH was out of town this morning so my only option for running was on the treadmill at the gym this morning before my strength training workout. I only ran about 5 miles and it wasn't necessarily fast or hard. But, one of the ladies on the treadmill behind me (a Zumba instructor there) stopped me after I was done and asked, "What are you doing running like that???? Are you trying to run that baby out of there?" I told her no, that I've been running all the way through this one, I've run all the way up to delivery with all three of my boys, and that unless any complications arise, I'll continue to run up to delivery with this pregnancy, too. To which she replied, "Are you sure it's ok for you to be doing that? I just don't know what you're thinking." I told her that both my dr and mw are huge proponents of what I do and keeping up my running and other exercising throughout my pregnancies. They, in fact, try to get all of their moms to be active, even if it's just walking, in most healthy pregnancies. It's healthy for me and my baby and they actually WANT me to continue running for as long as I'm able. Then, she still gave me a crazy look and said, "Well, ok, just want to make sure you're not doing anything crazy...."

Really????? Why can't people just mind their own business? EVERYONE thinks they are an expert on your body while you're pregnant and don't hold back saying whatever is on their mind and what they *think* is right, even if it's way off base. Needless to say, I was a little upset and angry.

But, thankfully God put a couple of other encouraging people in my path to offset her mouth. I had one of the trainers tell me that I was doing a great job and that she was so encouraged to see me still taking care of myself and the baby while pregnant. Also, while I was running on vacation, a random woman I passed on the street said, "That's one lucky baby..." When I gave her a puzzled look, she said, "because baby has a mom taking care of it's health before she's even born...." Thank the Lord for those who are encouraging in my life and offer it just when I need to hear it most! Also, my MW at my appointment this afternoon just laughed when I told her what was said to me....she just said, "And she went to medical school or nursing school where????" LOL

oh my.... at least you were decent enough to have a conversation with her! I have gotten to the point where I don't even acknowledge people's nosey comments! But that is because when I'm pregnant I tend to lose a lot of my filter, so I go with the old addage, "if you can't say anything nice....don't say anything at all..." LOL

I think its great you still run!! Not to discredit her or anything, but anyone can go become a fitness instructor if they have a few hundred bucks. But that doesn't qualify her to give anyone medical advice... geesh!

Wow! She certainly needs to mind her own business. Her comments were very rude. If she just couldn't help but ask, she at least could have asked in a different way minus the ridiculous comments. The fact that you are keeping up with exercising and running is very admirable!!

Thanks, girls...I'm not sure why it bothered me so much, but it did. I should just let it roll off my back, but the pregnancy hormones make it hard to do without being hurt or upset.

Danielle, I agree with your point. I've taken her class, and it's probably the easiest Zumba class I've ever taken in my life. Not intense at all and doesn't even get my heartrate up or make me break a sweat (and I sweat really easily). So, I guess to her it would probably seem like I was doing quite a bit comparatively although it was an easy run for me.

But, Michelle, you're completely right. I have no problems with talking to people who are curious about my running while pregnant, why I continue it, and what my drs think about it, but it was all in the way she addressed it. Very harshly, rudely, and like I was hurting myself.

I think Bailey is really lucky to have you too! I saw your fourth of July pic, and you look Amazing! I know people can be so rude, but like your doctor said, that lady just doesnt know what shes talking about. You'd think people would be MORE sensitive to how we're going to react to what they have to say while we're pregnant, but for some reason they feel like they can just say whatever! At church the other day I walked past this couple sitting on one of the pews, and they don't even try to whisper. He says to her "She hasnt had that baby yet?" And the lady says "I know, she's GOT to be miserable." My mom thought I was over reacting cuz it upset me, but Im pregnant, Im not deaf. And when I go to the gym, I feel like people watch me, like they think my water is going to break at any minute. I know I waddle, but I dont know, it just makes me uncomfortable that people dont mind their own business, like you were saying. Anyway, I'm proud of you Katie. I think you're doing a great job. *hugs*

So many people think that once a woman gets pregnant she needs to wrap herself in bubblewrap and stay in bed until the baby comes out. My own mom flips out if I lift anything heavier than my purse.

She probably was just ignorant. Annoying yes, but she probably thought she was coming from a good place.

You're probably right. And, it's not that I mind people's curiosity...it's just the manner and wording she used. Her tone was pretty harsh and it was clear that her intention was not one of curiosity or concern, but more that she thinks I'm actually crazy....

Holy cow! With my hormones, I have no patience. So I lip off when anyone says anything to me that I don't like! lol

I had to hold it in at work the other day when an annoying volunteer I never speak to, comes up, grabs my arm to stop me, and says, "I thought you were expecting but I wasn't sure. When is your baby due?"

I wanted to say that it was none of her business, and i don't know you if you guys have seen my pictures, but I have looked quite pregnant for some time! I told her, (kinda rude and to make her look dumb), "In 8 weeks actually.".

I know I would feel stupid telling someone I didn't know they were pregnant if they only had 8 weeks left. ha ha ha. Seriously, I can't stand people! Why do they think they can nose in on our health? Why would it be any of their concern? I don't ask people with large tumors on their face when they plan on getting that removed. Ugh.

I am kindof in your same boat. I don't get comments at the gym about working out, because everyone knows how active I am, but I do have people tell me all the time that I am going to have the baby out in the mountains on one of my hikes. I actually had a guy offer to go hiking with me so that I would have someone to deliver my baby. Uh, no thanks!

Ugh how annoying!!! I'm sorry you had to deal with her ignorance! I would've been upset by it too, probably mostly because she kept up with her comments even AFTER you told her that your doctor is okay with it. I would think if someone was concerned they would briefly mention it and then move on. She could have always been jealous. I think its absolutely wonderful that you've stayed as active as you are through your pregnancy!! I know from experience how aggravating it is when strangers make comments like this. The first thing that comes to my mind is when DS was an infant and i had him in my baby carrier at the store. I had a lady come up to me to inform me that she'd heard that carriers aren't safe (it had been on the news that a specific kind had suffocated babies). Even after letting her know that the one i was using was perfectly safe she continued to talk about how he seemed to be covered too much and blah blah blah. It irritated the heck out of me because i feel i'm very educated on these things and wish others would mind their own business or save their comments for the people who are actually endangering their children!

Anyway, I'm glad you ran across some positive people throughout your day as well.

Ooo, dang. Tone means everything here. I was assuming she was showing misplaced concern, not being a jerk . :/

First, I am impressed with your running 5 miles as lately I feel too big to do just about anything!

Don't let her negativity bring you down. As long as the doctor and MW give you the ok, that's all you need to worry about. She has probably never had kids or if she has maybe she was one of those that demanded to be waited on thoughout her pregnancy

I was super active with my first and am trying with my second. The doctor pretty much had to beg me to stop riding. As long as your body is used to the activity, all is well. And think how much easier labor and delivery will be!

Katie, I've decided people like that belong to a secret (though very large) society called the "Pregnancy Police". They have frequent meetings to discuss what crazy rule they're going to enforce next. The other day I was going out for a little stroll, and my neighbor said "shouldn't you be taking it easy?" Uhh... a little evening stroll IS taking it easy. Don't you know that other days I'm jumping around doing aerobics, and my doctor thinks that's great?

Anyways, good for you for being so active! It really is an encouragement to me. Not only are you being as healthy as you can be for all of your little ones, you're modeling good habits for them. Way to go!

Haha!!! That's great, Lucy! I think you're right.

I saw her again this morning at the gym, and she was telling everyone that I was "sprinting" yesterday?!? Bahaha....I don't know what she considers sprinting, but I actually was taking it easy and wasn't even running hard (for me personally) at all. I was like, since when is running an 8 minute mile considered sprinting????

Obviously, her perception of working hard is much different than mine, I guess.....
