So here I was thinking I had plenty of time to drive down to Tampa to visit my sister for a few days. What could go wrong? Yeah well, when they say you shouldnt travel after 32-34 weeks.. They mean YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T TRAVEL AFTER 32 WEEKS!!! Yikes! So here's what happened:

Two Wednesday's ago, I noticed I had a Urinary Tract Infection. I get these quite often, so I decided to just get some AZO and wait until my appointment on Monday to get antibiotics, so that I didnt have to pay for an extra visit. By Friday, it still wasn't getting any better, so I called the doctor and asked them: Is the baby going to be okay if I dont come in today, or can I wait until Monday? The nurse tells me that I will be fine to wait until Monday, so I waited. (Later, I found out that UTI's are a huge reason for pre-term labor, so I'm mad she didnt tell me that.) So then it gets worse over the weekend, and come Monday, I go into my appointment, and AGAIN they wouldn't let me see the doctor, they make me see the physicians assistant, who is maybe a day over 18, and clueless if you ask me. So rather than discussing my UTI, she wants me to take the stupid 1 hour glucose test again, because she said the baby weighs 6 lbs, 6 oz already.. even though my first test came back 110, (no-where close to failing) and the finger stick came back 77, again no-where close to failing. So he gained 2 pounds in a month. So what??? I only have a month left, if he gains another 2 pounds, that still only puts him at 8 something, which isnt too big, so she just makes me mad. Anyway, I'm getting side-tracked.

She gives me an antibiotic, checks me, says everything looks good, and says I'm free to go to Tampa, if I want to. So I picked up my medicine, and drove down Monday night. Tuesday, I felt a little better... Spent the day out shopping, and went to dinner, and woke up Wednesday not feeling very well. I had been taking the Antibiotics since Monday, and usually they start to work pretty quickly. So, I'm wondering why they arent working?? Why am I not feeling better? I look at the prescription bottle, and she gave me the medicine that I take every night to PREVENT the bladder infections. I knew immediately that this medicine would not be strong enough to clear the infection, and that my body was probably immune to it doing any good. ALL of this info is in my charts, which Im sure she didnt bother to look at. So I start getting these stabbing pains in my back, on the right side, and I call my doctor, and tell them I think they gave me the wrong medicine.

The nurse tells me: Well we havent gotten your cultures back, so even if you need another medication, we wont be able to tell you until Thursday or Friday.. So I'm in tears, and far from home, and couldnt stand, couldnt sit, couldnt lie down. Throughout the day, it got worse. I stayed in the shower almost all day. By the evening I started throwing up, and then the contractions started. The were coming about 15 minutes apart, then 12, then 10, so I told my sister we needed to go to the hospital NOW!

We got there, and they immediately gave me the shots to stop the contractions.. Once they were under control, they found out my kidneys were failing, and had to get that under control. It was awful. I was there from Wed. night to Saturday morning.. They had to give me Morphine and Percoset for the pain, which I wasnt happy about, but I couldnt handle the pain, and they were monitoring the baby, so I knew he was okay. Turns out, I have Kidney stones, and had a serious kidney infection. Hopefully they will pass on their own. I was down there all alone. My kids were with my sister, and she has two of her own, I was nervous to call my husband.. They didnt know how long I would be there, I just kept kicking myself for going down there in the first place!

I did get alot of rest though, once I finally started to feel better. My sister drove my kids back up here to stay with my MIL. I got home yesterday, and my Hubby took care of me, so That was soooooo nice. I'm so mad at that stupid doctor. I havent gone and done that stupid one hour test she wanted me to re-do. She's lucky I dont sue her for negligence. I absolutely refuse to see her again. There are 6 doctors other than her in that office, and I am going to demand to see one of them from here on out.

I'm okay today.. In some pain, but Im not taking the pain medicine they gave me. Its not worth it, Id rather suffer to make sure he's safe. I still have to take the antibiotics 4 times a day for a week, to make sure it doesnt come back. Please keep me in your prayers, if you've read and made it this far. I have to go check in on you girls. It looks like Ive missed alot! *Love and Hugs!

OMG I can not believe that the nurse first of all told you you could wait with a UTI grrrr that is frustrating... I called my Dr.'s office once and told them I thought I had one they made me come in within the day to just make sure. I am sorry for your rough experience I am glad to hear that you are feeling better and that your DH is taking good care of you!!! I hope the kidney stones pass as painlessly as possible! I will be praying for you please keep us posted!!

Oh my gosh!! That's terrible! I'm so sorry you had to suffer, that the PA screwed up so much, and that it got so bad. She should have known better. I would definitely be pitching a fit, calling the office manager and letting them know how upset you are. But that's just hormonal me speaking.

I'm glad you're feeling better and hope the stones pass soon and quickly. Big hugs!

That is so crazy! With your history, they definitely should have taken a UTI more seriously. You can go septic so fast! Especially while pregnant. I'm sorry you had to go through that. I hope you are feeling better!

Oh my goodness!! That is just a terrible experience. I am so sorry you had to go through all of that! To think it could have been avoided had the assistant just did her job correctly. That is awful! I am so glad you and baby boy got through that ordeal safely. I am so happy to hear your DH took good care of you! That could very well be the beginning of everything coming together and working out

I will definitely continue praying for you and baby boy and your family!

**BIG hugs**

Oh.my.word.....I can't believe this, Kelly!!! There is absolutely NO excuse for that! Her mistake directly led to your contractions and L&D stay. Definitely file a complaint. Take care of yourself! ***hugs*** And, BTW, I'm so happy to hear that your DH is taking wonderful care of you. That is a huge positive in this whole bad situation.

I would file a complaint against the nurses too. Any type of infection during pregnancy is bad and for the first nurse to say you can wait to come in and then the second nurse (assuming it's not the same nurse) to say they can't do anything for several days because they haven't gotten your cultures back is ridiculous. When I had the symptoms of an infection, they gave me antibiotics and then waited for the culture and would have changed the antibiotics if need be. It's not safe for them to wait 5 days for a culture. Definitely file a complaint against the PA, otherwise they are free to do this to another pregnant woman. I also wouldn't do the glucose test again, that's just stupidity... I wouldn't listen to a word she had to say... some people have bigger babies to begin with... without having GD. Plus those measurements aren't accurate. I was told with DS#1 that he would be around 8 1/2lbs, he came out 6lbs 0oz!

You are in my T&P! KUP with how you and baby boy are doing!

Wow. I would definitely call and file a complaint. How completely negligent on their part. I'm grateful you and baby are doing okay, but I cannot believe they would even let it get that far.

My husband has had kidney stones, so I have seen how horrible the pain appears. I hope you are feeling better and that you continue to improve.

Wow hun i'm so sorry you had to go through that!! You most definitely need to do some serious complaining. I do not see myself going back at all after having an experience like that! How scary!!! Glad to hear you're doing better now and i pray you're completely healed very soon. I very much admire your positive spirit

I would have sued them! This is why doctors need to LISTEN TO THEIR PATIENTS. I'm sorry, but you know your body better than anyone can even think. An 8 pound baby is NOT a big deal and a pretty average size if you ask me.

I'm so sorry for their incompetence, and I sincerely hope you get better soon. <3 -Hugs!!!- You're in my prayers mama.
