I ordered my breast pump from www.Edgepark.com which is a medical supply company. It was very easy to set up an account and order. They confirmed coverage with my health insurance and my Dr's office and shipped my 'Ameda Purely Yours' breast pump at no cost to me. My insurance covered it 100%!!! We have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maryland.
It retails for a catalog price of: $409.24 and I didn't pay a single penny.
If you plan on breastfeeding, please try it out and see if you're covered! They will not ship or charge you anything until after your insurance approval/disapproval and they will let you know if you owe a balance (co-pay etc) or not.
What a blessing! This is the pump I wanted because it is a closed system pump which means I will be able to use it in the future without having to worry with replacing tubing etc.
Kelly this is awesome, thank you so much! The only question I have is, what happens if my insurance doesn't cover it, or doesn't cover enough? The only information I can find on their website says I will have to pay out-of-pocket for the item. Do I have the option to not pay if it is too expensive?
You have the choice to cancel the order if you do not want to pay the co-pay or remaining balance not covered by insurance! It took about 3-4 days to get approval for mine They only automatic ship if it's covered 100%.

Great, thank you!!! I have BlueCross BlueShield as well, but I am in NY. Don't know if it will be different or not - but crossing my fingers!!! This would be a huge financial weight off my shoulders if I can get it like you did!
LMBO hotjai. I was so relieved I just flew off the handle with excitement! I'll let you guys know when my pump gets here with an update of the process, if there is any paperwork or anything that comes along with it.

I submitted an order too so we shall see!! I believe my insurance covers anything once I've meet my deductible at 90% so even if I pay $40 for ALL of that, I'm ok with it
I got one last year by having my doctor(he delivered 5 of my kids and knows how I struggle to make breast milk every time) write a prescription for one. He wrote that I have trouble producing milk and I was able to get it before Liam was born.
My insurance pays for mine as long as my doc writes a script for it . I'll just have the nurses get the one that I want from the supply store at the hospital and bring it to me before I leave--that's what I did with dd. Worked great!

Thanks for my gorgeous siggy, Jaidynsmum!!!
My hospital had suggested I check with my insurance to see if it's covered. I wasn't going to do it as I had a close friend who offered me her old pump (and I would replace all parts except the motor). After looking around for the replacement parts, it's still going to cost me about $100. I'm going to check this out since they'll confirm with my insurance for me and see if I can get a completely new pump! Thanks so much for posting!!!
You know what... I never even thought about checking with Insurance to see if a breast pump is covered or not. Mine needs all new parts and it's going to cost me a bit to replace it all, so I'm definitely going to call my insurance about this and ask my Dr. about it at my appt on Thurs.
Sarah, that is awesome! It never crossed my mind to check to see if insurance covers a breast pump. What an excellent idea! Very helpful post!! Thank you so much for sharing
Thanks for sharing!! The breastpump/accessories are all I need to get still, but I've been waiting since the one I wanted (Medela in-style advanced) is $250-$300. If I can get a better pump for a lot less (or nothing!) then that would be wonderful!!
Now the question is, which pump would be best?? I go back to work in January and will be pumping then, so I think I would need a double electric. Opinions??
I looked up the Purely Yours on Amazon and it got pretty good reviews! As Sarah said it is a closed system pump, so you don't have to worry about milk getting in places it's not supposed to be, replacing any parts, or even mold (which is what someone said the Medela did for them at one point). I was surprised to see that this website listed it at over $400 though, because for the pump on Amazon you can get it for a little over $100. But I've always thought that for the price I would be paying for a Medela, there HAS to be pumps that are just as good of quality out there, and cheaper.
my sister gave me her medela and I planned on getting all the replacement parts, but I have been nervous about the milk getting in the tubes.... So, I figured if this is covvered, why not??!
