Sam hasn't been eating as much recently and I'm concerned. He is 4.5 months so just had his check up. He had dropped percentiles but had still gained and I was a small baby so they weren't overly concerned. He was in the 25-50% at 14 pounds and 8 ounces. At day care he has gone from eating three 4-5 oz bottles to not finishing two 4 oz bottles. He isn't nursing well--today the longest he would stay latched was 6 minutes (and he wouldn't get back on after that). I think a big part is how distracted he is by everything--he is often trying to roll when nursing so he can look around. I gave him two bottles today when we were at home in the hopes that being able to look out while eating would help--he ate some of them (maybe 2 oz) but not much. He is happy, playing, and sleeping through the night still. He is pooping about every other day (but when he does it is a LOT!). Should I be worried about this?

I don't think it is my supply as I am able to pump 8-9 oz in about ten minutes, plus I feel like if it is my supply then he should be happy to eat the bottles (which he doesn't want much of either).

I also thought about teething. He is chewing hard on his hands, but at his appointment two weeks ago the doc said that he most likely wasn't teething yet.

I'm sorry Sam is not wanting to eat much! It can be so frusterating when the babies do that. I would say if he is still doing good and is alert and playful and is still having plenty of wet diapers then he should be fine and getting enough to eat. He could also be getting enough while nursing, Matthew has done that he went from nursing for 20-40 mins to maybe 10. I'm not sure about the bottles though. If your really concerned about it then call his ped, it dosent hurt to call and ask! lol

But I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers and KUP!

I don't think you have anything to worry about. He is probably just going through a stage sibnce you mentioned him getting distracted. Kyah is easily distracted now and she now fights with our nursing cover, trying to pull it off and down. She wants the ability to look around. I just try to feed her somewhere quiet without things to get her attention. I bet Sam will be nursing great again as soon as this stage passes. I hope he starts eating more very soon

We went through a stage like this. Cora never wanted to eat, but it has passed. This is also a stage where they are more efficient at the breast. I find Cora nurses for 5 min and is done. She seems satisfied with that.

I heard about that too-my grandma told me that they reach a stage where they are very efficient at nursing. She said the first 5 minutes is eating and the rest is them regulating your supply and comfort nursing. So it could be a mixture of him getting his fill then wanting to play and him not feeling that hungry! (I formula feed, so I don't have too much BFing advice).
