Many of you know of how our situation is. We rent a small house (maybe 800 sqft) but most of it is kitchen and bedroom. This doesn't leave much room for other space, especially when the front door leads into the kitchen (can't store anything there). It was perfect when it was just Tim...but now there is Elliott and I.
Then we got the dog and all hell broke loose! And now the dog is gone since I put my foot down (relief!). Our house is still so cluttered. We don't have anywhere to put stuff, like the vacuum, extra books, cook books, extra glass set, candles, etc. They just end up stacked on flat surfaces. It's so hard to make this place look presentable so we never have anyone over. We started house hunting, but most decent habitable houses start at 150,000 here and we were only approved for 110,000. Most houses in that range are:
Tear downs, profit in land
Fixer uppers-with rolling floors, hanging ceilings, leaking roofs, standing water
600sqft poorly laid out bad neighborhoods. or
400sqft nice cabins.
This has made house hunting hard. Luckily Tim has worked construction and now for a plumbing company and can literally fix and do
anything that a house needs done. But most of those houses require fixes we could not pay for.
We have made a few offers but we were always beat by 20,000 or the house went into foreclosure. Until recently.
We put an offer on a house that the bank accepted! Granted, the next door neighbor is a really messy hoarder-like broken lawn chairs and bikes in the front yard and overgrown. But still. It is even a 3 bedroom with a rec room and storage closet! I think finally we can have people over and we won't be cramped into a tiny space! The kitchen is tiny but we can convert the dining area into the kitchen as well. Tim plans on eventually adding on to the house by about 6ft in the back so we will have a bigger master bedroom and he can build a bath in there too.
Granted, we haven't signed papers for it yet but I don't see how it can go wrong since it is bank owned, so they can't really pull out of the deal. But I am a first time home buyer. The best part? We are about a 35 minute drive from all of his family and 2 1/2 hours from mine. The house would bring us to 10-20 minutes of all his family and 2 hours for mine. And it is right by Safeway rather than our house now which is on an island with expensive stores. I really hope we get it. I hate the neighbors already and know there will be drama there but having more room, Elliott get's his own big room (we split ours in half so he has a room big enough for a crib, dresser and changing table and that is it) and we could have people over.
Please keep your fingers crossed. We plan on fixing the place up and hopefully making a profit off of it given it needs updating. I will keep you guys updated on it.
