Just thought we'd like a thread to share our experiences with acupuncture.

There's actually a lot on the net about the benefits of acupuncture for fertility. Some acupuncturists actually specialize in it! Who knew?

I started going for migraines, but I am hoping that it will help for fertility as well - they know we are trying, so their treatment won't interfere and hopefully, will help.

Feel free to post thoughts and experiences here. Questions too!

My experiences:

So far I have been three times.

The first time was for intake and for my first treatment. We talked a lot about how I'm doing in general, and about TTC, and then we did our first treatment. The second time was an update on how I was doing, and the second treatment. And same with the third, although the third was a back treatment and with two acupuncturists, so that was new! She also gave me a herb mixture to drink in hot water twice a day - doesn't taste fabulous, but I have been pretty faithful about taking it!

The experience is weird, but I am getting used to it. Hopefully it will get us where we need to be!!

Hey Jess, great idea for a thread

I'm hoping to start acupuncture this cycle! I found one locally that specialises in fertility and made contact about appts but not got around to making one yet. FXd ill have my first this week or next!

I'm excited to be doing something different, thought it would be a good plan whilst waiting for IUI in the new year!

This IS a good idea for a thread!

I was planning to do fertility acupuncture earlier this year but never did. I really like the idea of it, and my RE highly recommended it (from someone specific that specializes in fertility acupuncture.)

I look forward to reading the different experiences!

Having someone who specializes in fertility is awesome when there is a diagnosed issue. I figure, at this point, for me, it's not a diagnosed issue, so I'm just going to go with the regular one until I know more about what's going on with me!

How is it going for you? I had to stop taking my herbs for a few days because of my cold thing - you aren't supposed to take it with a fever, since it is to make you warmer - not a huge problem, but will make it take longer to get better. So I was off for three days But back on again today and I have my next apt on Wednesday!

Acupuncture is awesome!!! I went for treatments as well and went with someone who specializes in fertility. They knew which side I was O'ing from, they could tell without me telling them when I was taking Clomid and when I had finished it just from my pulse, by looking at my tongue they could tell if I had energy, was sleeping well, etc. It was amazing! Even if you don't have a diagnosed problem, they can help with stronger O and blood flow and whatnot. And if you have someone who's really good, you should fall asleep from being so relaxed when they leave you in the room with the needles in My guy was so specialized they even had pregnancy stats if you followed exactly what they told you to do, so herbs, treatment, use of fertility monitors and their stats were much higher than any RE

Because I was going for fertility I never noticed any immediate changes, but one time I went with really bad cramps (I can't remember if it was from IUI or AF) I told my guy and when I got off the table they were gone and never came back so I know it does work!

I did get pregnant using acupuncture and IUI/Clomid, I miscarried at 7 weeks but as soon as I found out I was pregnant I quit going. Honestly, part of me ALWAYS wonders WHAT IF I had kept going... People tell me not to think that, I'm not blaming myself I just wonder...

Sending you ladies tons of luck and hope it helps things along!!!

Thanks Tammy!

Everyone I have talked to seems to think that this is positive for fertility I talked yesterday with the lady (different than usual, since she was busy due to Thanksgiving) and she told me that pregnancy is basically extracurricular for the body, so anything you do to make yourself healthier will help that. So, that was an interesting way to think about it. She was definitely in the "make yourself welcoming to life" camp and just really nice. I think she might be my go-to person if my lady is busy - it's a fairly big practice so there's actually a lot of choice, and they usually have students following them, which is interesting.

It is always amazing to me what they can tell. She took my pulse yesterday after I told her I had been sick and she said that she thought I was still fighting it and wanted to give me an immune boost, particularly since DH is still sick and she doesn't want me to get it again from him. It was really interesting. And that she knew I had been having insomnia from being sick by looking at my tongue. Crazy.

Bit late but I wanted to post about my first appointment! It was last friday and I was there almost 2 hours in total. She did look at my tongue lol! She asked a tonne of questions about my health etc and was really pleased with my charting apart from she'd like me to temp a full cycle from CD1 (which i dont do at the moment) so will do this next cycle.

She was very thorough and asked me questions prompting answers that I couldnt believe, for example she was asking about my sleeping which I said was rubbish. So she said...are you jumpy / do people startle you easily? Which I am. very. it happens so often its funny lol! How strange right??!

I had acupuncture for about 25 mins, with needles in my legs, stomach and hands. It was weird at first but quite relaxing. Now i know what to expect, i think ill find it more relaxing next time.

I've boooked more sessions going into january as her diary is reallly busy! Next one of the 12 december and I cant wait!

They know the strangest things about you!! I have to tell you about my apt. for today!

I have been seeing one main acupuncturist, and then other people as necessary for scheduling purposes. It's a clinic, so as long as the acupuncturist has the same supervisor, it's okay. Anyway, I have seen Sherry a lot, but today was my second time with Rae (I also saw Kathryn once, but she doesn't usually work a shift that I can go to). Anyway, Rae is a little older than Sherry and I think we just click better, but we'll see. I have an appointment with Sherry next week, and then Rae again the week after that...so we'll see.

Anyway, we were talking today about things - they'll ask for an update about things and whatever. I mentioned that AF arrived and that it was sad, and she was so sympathetic and wonderful. She also said since I had almost no PMS symptoms that she thought we were getting closer to pregnancy, which was awesome. When we got to the needles, she did a couple and then she asked..."This is going to be a weird question. But are you very empathic?"

I said yes. She said that she bet that I have some problems being in crowds and whatever, and that I should make sure to take care of myself. I have found myself to be even more of homebody than usual since being in NYC. There are just so many people everywhere!

Anyway, she did the most amazing treatment, with a warming treatment. It was awesome. I was like jelly afterward - I wish I could have gone home, but I had meetings and class and stuff. But I still feel good afterward. It made me so happy! It was like...when you have a good cry and you feel so released and relaxed afterward. It was amazing. Really good.

Reviving this thread to gush some more about acupuncture (lol).

I went yesterday to see my lady before the winter break, and she had a different supervisor with her - apparently, she is the one that deals with fertility! So that was awesome. She asked me like 20 questions about my health and my period, looked at my chart (she agrees that my luteal phase is fine) and then we did an awesome treatment and she gave me some crazy herbs.

I have done this kind before - dissolve in hot water, drink quickly. This stuff is spicy though! It's crazy. I like it though, I'm hoping it does good things for me. It's this: Wen Jing Tang (Warm the Menses Decoction) - Chinese/TCM Formula in a slightly different combination, and without the E Jiaou since I asked for my formulations to be vegetarian (we keep kosher at home and anything with animals in them gets to be a problem).

She was also really hopeful for me, so I'm hopeful. I am SO much warmer just after one dose. We'll see what happens, right?

Great update, i wanted to post one today too!

I had my third appointment today and left feeling more like a pin cushion than I have before! I had extra needles in my chest and feet today, chest for my costochondritis and feet to help with feeling ansy (possibly clomid related)

She always looks at my tongue and checks my pulses (all 6!) at each appointment and then uses different acupunture points depending on how im feeling, where abouts in my cycle I am.

I actually fell asleep today! it was so relaxing!

I love the treatments, they are great. I am what they call something qi defensive (i forget the exact words) so I get a lot "sensation" when they first put them in (it feels like a cold shiver from where the needle is either up or down my body) so the needles in is weird, but once they're in I'm like zzzzzz. Very nice! I'm sad my next one can't be until the week of the 7th! Oh well!!

Isn't the pulse thing crazy? The supervisor who did mine this week did both at once! I was like, you're cool. I figure if we get an actual infertility diagnosis (again she did not think I would get one, but IF) then I know I will go with her and pay more if I need to. She was really awesome and attentive.

My next visit is on the 4th and I cant wait already! Its so relaxing that I figure even if it isnt helping directly with ttc the relaxation will help indirectly!

Sorry I didn't see this!

Anyway, I really wonder how much it had to do with my O'ing during finals - I'm really sure it MUST have been because otherwise - that's just amazing. Especially if I end up actually pregnant!

I really find it amazingly relaxing and I'm looking forward to going back next week!
