As some may know my DH and I are in a tough spot right now. He recently got laid off and we lost all our benefits at the end of last month. I've put in a few applications here and there and I'm just waiting to hear back. Does anyone have any suggestions for places that would hire a pregnant woman? Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated. I could probably conceal it if I wanted to still, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable not being honest and upfront about it.

I agree with being honest about it.....you would feel MUCH better in the end. I did that one time (hid it and told them after they hired me) and I felt horrible. The thing is, THEY knew it too so it made me feel very awkward every time I went to work. You certainly don't need that additional stress....so honesty is better! But I would let them know too that you generally have healthy pregnancies and that you wish to work xxx amount of days up to the time of delivery and you plan on coming back xxx amount of days because they may admire that about you too I'm not well versed on who may hire you....but it IS tough for a pregnant woman to find work and that stinks What did you do before? What are your qualifications? How often do you want to work? (full time, part time?)

Can they legally not hire you just because you're pregnant? I didn't think that was the kind of thing they could discriminate against...not that employers don't have their ways. I hope you can find something ASAP.

I would honestly not tell them, especially if it's not a small place. Legally they cannot discriminate against you for being pregnant, but the reality is that that isn't always the case on the ground. Given your difficult circumstances I would be inclined to do what you need to do.

yeah they cant discriminate against you for being pregnant but usually they can find other ways of why they didnt hire you... so thats a tricky thing... I hope whatever you decide to do that you will find the perfect match for you!

From a legal stand point they aren't supposed to discriminate, but to be honest a handful of them do. In your case you aren't in your late 2nd or even 3rd trimester so five it a shot and like the other ladies said be honest. Good luck.

In my opinion, the discrimination tends to happen at smaller places more often than larger corporate places. I'd be inclined to decide whether to be up front or conceal the pregnancy based on how competitive you think the interview process is going to be, and what kind of a job it is. Good luck!

Legally they can't not hire you because you're pregnant, but most places WON'T hire you if you're pregnant and just say it's because someone else was better suited. Personally I wouldn't tell them, but I wouldn't hide it either. If it's a matter of taking care of your family, do what you need to do. But you will be hired more quickly without revealing it right away.

Wow I am so sorry you guys are in a tough spot. My husband lost his job during the recession and it was rough. Anyway, legally no company can discriminate against you for being pregnant. That being said, they can easily choose someone else who is a "better" fit. Because you guys need income and benefits asap, I would not mention the pregnancy. Once you get the job, if someone seems disappointed you did not share this, just be honest. You were afraid it would hurt your chances of getting the job. Or, you can pretend to be shocked. "What! I'm so huge, I thought everyone just knew I was pregnant!"

In the end, this is not something they can hold against you or even ask you about. Good luck!!!!

I just wanted to add that we had a case where I work of someone outing themselves during the interview process for a faculty job. The HR representative exclaimed, 'we don't need to know that! It's none of our business'. The faculty member did get the job but I think this is an unusual case. At any rate, I wouldn't feel badly about not telling someone. It's an inconvenience, perhaps, when they do find out, but your family's well-being is a lot more than an inconvenience. Good luck.
