so my hubby and I decided that we were going to switch to my midwife... and last night I met her and LOVE HER!!! shes sooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome!!! Im excited to get to know her better and glad shes going to share this journey with us! she has calmed my fears of a home birth and I know she is going to be a HUGE support!!! so last night while she was here she pulled out her doppler and apparently someone does NOT like it! lol the baby kept kicking it and my midwife would ask "did you feel that?" and I would take a min to think about it and then reply with a "no... " lol the last kick I think I felt... but probably just wishful thinking! lol I said in a different post about how we are planning on getting our gender scan in 2 weeks!!! Im soooooooooooo excited! we are going to get it done on the 12th of may! and then do a gender reveal party that night with our families! and learn with them what we are going to have! Im sooooooooooo excited!!! CANT WAIT!!! it will be a good mothers day present!
Awesome!!!! I absolutely loved the care I received from my midwife compared to my OB. I mean, I love my OB - he's really great and he's still our family doctor and in does all my prenatal care. But the philosophy about pregnancy and birth between the two disciplines (conventional medicine versus midwifery) is just so different! I hope you have a really great homebirth! I cherish the experience so much, it was such a lovely way to welcome our babies into the world.
That's so great! I really really really wanted a homebirth but we just can't afford the out of pocket expense. And the free standing birth center I had my last 2 at (and loved) is too far so I'm back at a hospital. I have a great OB and midwife but still trying to get used to the idea of being in a hospital again.
I can't wait to hear all about your homebirth, I think that's so great! And almost time to find out who's baking in there! Woo Hoo!!!!
So excited for you!!!! I'll find out the gender on the 10th so we are super close on days!! You have a little active one I love it!! What do you think the gender is??
thanks Kristen! she is AMAZING! so glad my SIL found her! lol
Shawna how many hbs have you had? and yeah its COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! my Ob was good for ttc I guess... but then once I was pregnant I felt like I was just a money cow for her... so Im excited to have this new change!
Jenn! I TOTALLY understand the whole money thing... for us our insurance has a REALLY HIGH deductible so its actually cheaper to go with a midwife... or else we prob. would have to go through my ob... and thats a complete bummer that you live too far away from your birthing center! BOO!!!
Lauren I think its a boy... but I could be wrong! lol I guess we shall see!
Mommy instinct is correct more times than not so there's probably a little boy in there! I find out on the 8th, so the same week as you and it can't get here fast enough!
Yeah, the homebirth would make more financial sense in that regard. We don't have a deductible at all so its way cheaper to go with the hospital. The birth center isn't terribly far, an hour and 20 minutes with no traffic but my last labor was only 97 minutes so it would be cutting it too close (she was literally about 3 minutes away from being born in the car). They do water births at my hospital though and I've never had one before so I'm trying to focus on that and be excited about that.

I had the first two in hospital with my OB. Unfortunately we have no midwives here who can deliver in hospital. The last three were home waterbirths with a midwife from Montana. In hospital, the nurses were great - but they were strangers to me. My OB was only there at the last minute to catch and go "It's a boy!" as if he was the one who had just done all the hard work! LOL Just quite impersonal overall. As we were doing my prenatal history at my appointment yesterday, my OB asked if I'd had any in hospital. I was like, "Yes. Two. You delivered them." That felt really special.
I really love how with a midwife, she's there the whole way through. She also doesn't try to take credit for anything that I've accomplished or take over the things DH could be doing. A few examples. With #4, she knew we were really hoping he'd be a boy. When he was born, she could see what he was but she didn't say anything. She just kept quiet and let us discover our baby on our own. Or with #3, she offered to let DH catch after checking to make sure there was no chord around the neck. Neither of us expected he'd be allowed to do that! So he caught our daughter at our first home birth. She stepped right back and let him do it. She other two had their cords around the neck, so she caught them. Little things like that just meant so much! She really treated us like meeting our baby was a sacred time and she was just there to keep us safe, but not to disrupt the beauty of what was happening. She remembers details about my births and even our kid's names. That means a lot to me.
Shawna, boy do I hope our birth will be like that... What an awesome testament to how wonderful midwives are!!
Jessica, yay for going with a midwife and double yay that you are going to have a homebirth! Did you tell your family yet? I hope they are supportive about it! I've caught a little grief about wanting to do a water birth at a birth center and it's no fun to have to justify your beliefs. I cannot wait to hear all about your baby's birth; I am sure it will be magical!
BTW: I think you are having a girl! Just a feeling..

So happy for you that you found a midwife and are planning a home birth. I, too, am planning a homebirth (my 3rd). It's so nice to have a midwife that you feel comfortable with.
I loved how when I went in to my first appointment she talked about my last birth (I had the records so it wasn't like she could read up beforehand) and her apprentice even mentioned the birth tub we used ("I could see right through it.").

Nina, I havent told ALL of my family... I know that my sisters will give me grief over it... so I just havent told them... my brothers wife is actually the one that told me about my midwife! because she is hers too!!! so I have a HUGE support from her! and my husband is all for whatever I want to do! he says this is your thing! lol but hes really supportive of my decision too! a few years ago when the thought first popped into my head I asked him and he said "I would feel more comfortable if with the first you had at the hospital." but then we watched some documentaries and ever since then we both have been more gong hoe for home births!
we arent doing a home birth but i LOVE LOVE LOVE the midwife who delivered pey, and im so thankful some of my visits i get to see her! she was there my whole delivery!
