I sympathize! We went through the same thing a few weeks ago. I think it's a Western Canadian thing

. During my u/s, the tech asked if we wanted to know gender - I said yes we did, and she explained that as a tech, she wasn't allowed to tell me anything because disclosing the gender is considered a "diagnosis", and she isn't qualified to diagnose anything. The best I could get out of her was that yes, she did check for gender, yes, she could tell what it was, and yes, she would put it in the report for our doctor.
Knowing that we would definitely find out the gender made the week's wait for the doctor's appointment bearable - if she hadn't been able to confirm that she could determine the gender, that would have made me nuts! So one week later, we found out that we have a DD on the way.
I'm sorry that you weren't able to get a "diagnosis" erm, gender prediction
