What is safer? Having baby on the inside of the bed towards the wall? Or on the outside of the bed with a mesh rail up? Obviously if I had him towards the wall I would have to make sure there wasn't any gaps at all between the bed and the wall somehow... It seems like having him on the outside would be safer, but I need some advice from those who have BTDT.
Also, is it possible to cosleep with a queen sized bed? I'm actually buying a new bed this week and I'm not sure if I should just opt for the king and pay a little more or if the queen would suit us just fine. I'm totally basing the bed I buy on co-sleeping. I'm excited to be able to sleep with Ares and I just want to make sure I do it safely and the right way.
They don't recommend placing baby next to the wall for suffocation reasons. Best scenario would be you on one side, baby in middle, a mesh rail on the other side. I had posted a link to those foam bumpers too... that would be a GREAT option if it is going to be just the two of you! We co-sleep with Josiah (me, DH and Josiah) in a king, and are all comfortable. If it is just going to be you and Ares, a queen should be plenty of room. Although, I have to say, I DO love my king sized bed!!!

I don't have any experience with this, obviously, but what Sarah said makes sense; I don't think I would want baby next to the wall.... I would be nervous that her limbs get in the crack somehow. Are you going to use one of those insert things for the baby to sleep in when he's on the bed? In that case, it should be fine to have him next to the wall...

I don't really plan on having him sleep in one of those inserts. I'm a light sleeper plus I firmly believe that mother's and babies have such a strong connection even during sleep, I really am not worried about rolling over on him or anything like that. However if the baby was in the middle of the bed between two adults i would DEFINITELY use the insert because I don't think men have that keen awareness that mama's do about the baby's presence... At least not at first lol
I would definitely not put baby on the wall side. I always slept towards the edge of our bed, with baby next to me towards the middle and DH slept on the other side of the bed. He always stayed pretty far away from DS and I, because he was more nervous about having the baby in the bed than me. We have a king though, so there's plenty of extra space.
Get a king if you can!!! We have a queen and still co-sleep and every morning we say, "man, we should have bought the king instead." You can do it with a queen but it's tight.
When we co-slept with little ones, we always put them in the middle of DH and I or on the outside between the bed and the co-sleeper.

I have to admit, now that DH bought me a king sized bed, I can't believe we ever coslept in a full...and I guess when we were looking at beds we had originally thought we'd keep the price lower and get a queen, and then realized that for only $200 more we could get the king and so we did. I don't think you'd regret a king!
i would get a king, i had a california king with pey, i only slept with her sitting up in my bed i would nurse her in bed but then put her in my bassinet, i also slept everywhere with her bc i just wanted to sleep lol!! we slept in the recliner, the floor sitting up in the couch, my SO says he will sleep with the baby on his chest im not a huge fan of co sleeping but if this baby sleeps like my daughter did then by all means he can sleep on his chest
Thanks for the tips everyone! It's good to know that a queen is totally doable. Mancini's sleep world was having a fifty percent off mattress sale... If that is still going on, I may be able to afford a king. If not, I will just get the queen
Just know that once you get a king, you can never downgrade I agree, you will love co-sleeping. Josiah's new thing is to wake me up every morning by leaning into my face and saying, "BUENOS DIAS!" (thanks Dora and Diego!). Then he curls up next to me and gives me a huge huge and says, "Mmmmmmmm.... I wuv you SO MUCH Mommy!" followed by a huge kiss on the cheek. I love that part of my morning, no matter HOW tired I am! The fact that he is a little space heater is not so much fun at this point in pregnancy, but I have loved having a little snuggler aside from that!
Seriously, if you can get the king, GET THE KING! As a newborn they don't take up much space but man when they get a bit older those little ones love to go sideways on you--they love to be that little middle part of the letter H. lol We've coslept with all of our children starting when our first was 2 months old (exclusively anyway).
I always have the baby in the middle, well baby is always like right up against me but towards the middle of the bed. The first couple months baby sleeps right on my chest though because I'm paranoid. I'm an extremely light sleeper and as soon as our first baby came into our bed my dh has been very aware as well.
I ended up having to get the queen. The kings were not only out of my price range but also wouldn't fit in my room. Well it would, but then the room would be all bed and no room for all of my other stuff. Lol!
It's getting delivered tonight and I am so excited. It's super comfortable! Nice and firm for the baby, but also somehow pretty soft too. Woo!
Because of the situation right now, it's a king size, one side my mom, middle Xander, other side me. And you're right, as long as you're in tune to your baby you should be fine without a "co-sleeper" in the bed.Anyway, he's 3 1/2 and we have plenty of room, so a queen is more than big enough.
