A quick update on my post from last week when I discovered that I had a shortened cervix, a positive fetal fibronectin test, which led to steroid shots and bed rest.
I ended up in hospital on Sunday into Monday with a very irritable uterus. I was 50% effaced and honesty very uncomfortable. My fetal fibronectin test came back positive again but it was also discovered that I have some sort of maternal infection. I was eventually released as my cervix was only slightly dilated and I wasn't properly contracting. I felt very despondent as I left the hospital and yesterday was pretty miserable.
Today, though, I had a couple of excellent appointments. I had my cervical length rechecked and miracles or miracles it's improved by a whopping 1cm!!!!!!! Crazy. It's now in the normal range and my risk of delivering before 34 weeks dropped from 65% or so, to somewhere just over 20%. I am over the moon. I am still on bed rest as it's clearly what's helping and to maintain the length they want me to do what I'm doing. I think I will get a reprieve when I'm close to 36 or so weeks.
Feeling much more positive about things, especially that I'll get to birth this little boy at the hospital I want, with midwives, and in the tub!
Here's a link to a very cute 4 D photo from my scan today!
Thanks so much, everyone! It is such a relief. I can now at least hope with some realism that we'll get the birth we want and a baby who is not preterm and all the difficulties that brings.
Shamogue, I owe you a very long email! You'd think with bed rest that I'd be on top of all that...!!!
Such wonderful news with the improvement of your cervical length. Were they able to elaborate on the possible infection? Are you being treated for it? I ask these questions for good reason, just for you to be careful is all. I have been through the mill with my share of infection.
Great news. Hope baby continues to bake for couple more weeks.

Wow that is fantastic that your cervical length improved so much!! I'm thrilled for you guys and hopefully you will make it way past 36 weeks. Your little guy is adorable and looks SO peaceful in that picture.

Thanks, everyone! All of a sudden bed rest seems so much easier now I know it's having such a positive effect!
As for the infection: I believe it is bacterial vaginosis, which is a bacterial overgrowth. They only checked me because when they tested to see if my waters had broken the PH test was blue (thus positive) but there was no ferning pattern. The medicine has already calmed down the pelvic contractions I was having, so hopefully that was the source of my irritable uterus.
32 weeks today... so just 36 weeks until the end of bed rest!!!!
