I'm quite proud of myself actually for not completely freaking out and getting all hysterical when I saw that thing in our dining room, hanging from the ceiling (that's what it looked like, DH told me it was on a web though).
I think this may have been only the 2nd time in my life I've seen one this big, and how it got inside our house is beyond me! This thing's body (without considering legs) was approx. 1-2 inches in diameter. Pretty roundish too. And fat. yikes!!!
My first thought was: Halloween "dummy"/Halloween joke. But of course that was BS and I knew it, cuz we don't have any spider Halloween deco, especially not that real looking, and DH would never ever do this to me.
So I said "oh my god," left the room and said again "oh my god."
DH is like, what?
And I answer: dining room, above the corner cabinet. I don't even want to look at it.
oooh, it's a biggy, DH remarks.
He goes to the kitchen and grabs paper towel.
"You're gonna get it with a paper towel? Really? Yikes!!"
I can't remember his answer lol but he did get it.
I told him afterwards, I don't know what I would have done if that happened to me on a day you're at work. I'd probably go to the neighbor's house asking for help lol I most definitely wouldn't ignore it like I sometimes do with smaller ones and then they disappear and I'm okay, thinking you better never show yourself again. If that big bugger disappeared, I'd leave the house and never come back until it's found lol

Yes, I do have arachnophobia, and real bad. I don't really know why. There are several incidences that showed to me that it's more than just a mere fear of spiders: 11 years ago, when I still lived with my mom in Germany, I once browsed a nature book and when I opened a page that showed a spider, I turned the page and then winced back as if that thing was real. I never ever opened the book after that and I believe I eventually threw it out.
I once killed a small spider in a reflex, with a shoe. I then sat there crying, afraid to get rid of the dead thing.

But the probably most defining moment that made even my older sister realize I'm not just afraid of spiders, was only a few years ago, shortly before I moved to the US in 2007. My sister never believed I have arachnophobia. She thought I was just scared, maybe more so than some other people. Well that night I kinda proved her wrong. We lived in the same house, she in the basement apartment and I in the third floor apartment. I was visiting her and when it was time to go back up to my place I saw a huge spider in the hall way. It was black, legs probably about 2 inches long and quite thick. Body slim/oval and maybe one inch long. Baaaahhhh! I refused to go past that monster. My sister tried to convince me that nothing will happen. She said my younger sister would escort me up (she was visiting too). But I refused. I ended up hyperventilating. I breathed hard and cried at the mere thought of going passed that spider. I couldn't control my body.
That's when my sister said, wow you really do have a phobia.
I'm like, well ... yea... duh! I've been telling you for years...
She ended up killing the thing and was going to show me, and I said I don't want to see. She described it ugh! very gross.

Oh yea, and shock therapy my a** lol ever after that I couldn't even look at spider webs without fear!
It got better in time (I can look at webs again and I sometimes even vacuum the really tiny thing ones if DH is not around, but there better be some other stuff to vacuum after spider is gone lol don't ask...)

I had another incident of hard breathing, when I found a small one crawling on me!! That was here in the US. I wiped it off me ran out of the room and sat in the other room for probably a half hour before I could calm down. DH sat with me, holding me

God I hate having a phobia like that!

Sorry for the long stories. Kudos to you if you read this far lol

Ok I'm done.

I totally understand. I have gotten over it a little, I can usually handle smaller ones as long as I have something to kill them with, but even after they're dead I can't pick them up with a tissue or something, have to carry them on a flyswatter or something and even then I'll jump if I twitch and it moves from me moving. I've had to deal with some huge ones in the past, and the only way was for me to use spider spray, I couldn't get close enough to kill them. I can't walk past a big one either. I've cried over plenty of them.

My problem is that I'm just as terrified of other bugs too... anything that flies or anything big and I'll just freak out. I hate it when things get away but most of the time I am terrified to try to get close enough to kill it myself. We got wasps inside the house occasionally the last house we lived in, that was horrible.

One of my FB friends' kids posted a picture of a tarantula on her page last week. I had to block the picture, it scared me so bad.

Yes, I'm ashamed of my irrational fears, but just wanted you to know you're not the only one.

Thank you, Angie! I'd have to block that pic too, if it showed up on my facebook feed. DH mentioned once that one of our mutual friends had postet one of my "favorites". When I asked what he meant, he said a spider. I made sure I wouldn't go on facebook for a few hours, so that pic would disappear in the feed history lol

I get afraid of wasps too (and bees), couldn't imagine having them in the house. But it's not nearly as bad a fear as I have of spiders --at least that fear (wasps and bees) is rational: afraid to get stung. I was a bit shocked myself when I lost control of my body, and I just kept shaking and breathing so hard I thought I was choking, at my sister's apartment.

What is spider spray?!

Black widows are my ultimate spider fear, mostly because I've seen them more than I have most spiders. I'm sure I'd freak out if I saw a bigger one, oh my god. When I see just one, in my mind I see like 5 more. If I kill one, which takes me a good 5 minutes to gather up my courage to kill it in the first place, I fear there's more around. Especially at night, because that's when I see spiders the most, I have a hard time sleeping afterwards because I start feeling tingles on my arms like one is on me. I hope there's not much of them here in the apartment, because Caden works nights and can't kill them for me lol.

The only reason I'm freaked out by spiders is pretty stupid, but it's so weird. All throughout my childhood, when I saw a spider, it was usually coming down from it's web, so it would just dangle there upside down. One time I was doing my hair in my bathroom and when I looked into the smaller mirror, it was like right there dangling just about over my shoulder! I don't know why they always appear like that when I see one, it's weird. My mom tries to tell me it's good luck and they're attracted to me yeah right! I hate them.

I can't look at the super big ones like camel spiders even online for more than a second or I start to squirm.

I don't have arachnaphobia, but I do suffer from a mild case of claustraphobia, which stinks too!

yikes, you've mostly seen black widows? *cringe*

I keep checking all the walls and ceilings for hours, sometimes days, too after DH killed a spider for me, especially now after seeing that big fat one!
I know that tingling feeling all over my body. Especially if there was one and it was just like an itch, I imagine these creepy crawlers and that causes more of that tingling feeling lol It's a freakin chain lightening effect.

I don't even dare googling "arachnophobia" to find ways to "heal" or educate myself, cuz I fear spider pics will come up. ugh. So I totally know what you mean by looking at big ones online.

That's really weird they always come down near you like that! Those spiders have seen too many movies lol

Ugh, I can't stand spiders. I used to have a terrible fear and I would shut down if I saw one. I really think it stems from the house I grew up in as we had enormous spiders living in the basement, and one year when my family traveled, we rented out the house to a couple who decided to breed spiders and scorpions in the basement. Who does that!!??! When we came back they were all over the place.

I don't think I'll ever get past it, but it's gotten a little bit better since moving into this house 2 years ago. This place was crawling with spiders in the beginning because the previous owners were hoarders who just let things go. The thought of them crawling on my baby made me brave enough to start dealing with them and eventually it got a little easier. Now I can take care of the little spiders without running to my husband, but he knows he's always on duty

omg breeding them?! seriously, who does that...?!

our basement ceiling was also covered with spiders (in the house I lived in when I was a little girl).... hmm, that may be a reason why I have that fear too.
