Emmy has had a rash off and on for a few days. at first I thought they were bites but I don't see what could be biting her, other than a flea from the dog?? But we haven't seen any and I really don't think he has any. I think it's more likely a rash from the detergent. I think maybe I used too much and it isn't washing out? I just washed all her clothes again with just a tiny bit and put them on two rinse cycles to see if that helps. I'm using Charlie's soap, liquid.
I wanted to get your input to see if it could be anything else. Thanks!!

We use Dreft Baby. But rashes in newborns are really common. Coleson got the same looking rash and it went away in a few days.

Good luck and hope it clears soon!

All of my babies including this one had a rash like that at her age. I think its pretty normal, but you can try using just a free and clear detergent to see if that helps.

Really? Thanks you made me feel better. She's had this for days though. I feel awful about it although I'm not sure if it's really bothering her or not. Hopefully it will clear soon!

Aw, poor Emmelyn! It might be from the detergent. Good thing it doesn't seem to be bothering her! Did you check her temp? That's what our ped says we should always do when we find another symptom. Temp is the biggest indicator of a problem at this age.

Good luck!

Allison had it from about 3 days old and it cleared up in about a week. Now she has baby acne blemishes on her face. Poor girl can't win lol

Both of my dds had some sort of rash; dd1's we thought was allergy to johnson and johnson. Luyando had what I think is heat rash; either way I used California baby cream and the rashes clear. Their skins are just so sensitive. Hope hers clears soon.

Wow! I would be really surprised if it was the detergent as many people switch to it because of sensitive skin. Are you sure you're using the right amount?

You should try something else to be safe. She could be allergic to something in the environment too. Hard to pinpoint with those rashes...

Ruby started having some small rashes in the hospital that pop up sometimes. Little red circles with a white dot center that fade quickly. Very odd.

my midwife said it's normal. Savina had it for a few days after birth. not as bad as Emmy though, but it's gone by now.

In our newborn care class they showed us pictures of random newborn conditions that we might think are abnormal but are actually harmless (misshapen head after birth, milk blister on lips from sucking, baby acne) and this rash looks like one of the slides we were shown as just a rash that some newborns get. Maxmilian had a rash for 2 days in the hospital & the pediatrician said "yeah, he's just got a mild allergy to the air" (I kid you not!!). Apparently sometimes it just takes their skin a while to adjust to being on the outside.

But like other people mentioned, keep an eye on her temp & for other symptoms as I'd hate for you to miss anything serious.

Thanks Kristen!

Well you girls just made me feel a million times better!!! I'll take her temp in the am but I don't think it's up. She doesn't feel flushed or hot at all. But I'll take it just to be safe!
Oh and Kristen, the rash you described sounds just like it; red circle with a white dot in the middle. The dot is what initially made me think it was a bite!

Delaney, allergy to the air.. wow! But I guess it makes sense; their delicate skin has never been exposed to all this stuff we have floating around!

Thanks ladies!!!!

Madilyn had a rash that looks just like this hen we were in the hospital. I thought it was a reaction to the detergent, too. We had the pedi look at it and she told us it was newborn rash & was normal. It finally went away on its own a few days ago.

You can soothe her rash by making a strong mint and chamomile tea and bathing her in it with no soaps. DD1 was very rashy and the tea is soothing to the skin.

Aww poor sweet girl! Definitely doesn't look like flea bites - Hannah has had a couple bites and they are just tiny red bumps without the big red area around it. I hope a change in detergent fixes things!
