Are any of you on Care.com? I put together a profile when DH and I first moved to his current duty station but it hasn't gotten a lot of attention and I think it is partly due to the fact that I have no "connections" on the site and so probably look kind of fishy to parents looking for a sitter - although I did do the optional background check and made it available. I'm not sure how else - aside from paying to promote my profile, which I don't have the money for - to make my profile look better/more likely to result in a job...

Yeah... Scam website from what I've read!! I also created a profile about 2 weeks ago and paid for the background check. I contacted about 5 families in this area and hot no response! I thought that seemed really bizarre so I did a google search for care.com reviews. Abysmal!! Check it out yourself. People claim they saw adds cycle through after several weeks but with a different families profile pic although the text stayed the same. Really, really bad reviews. Sittercity is supposed to be more legit. Good luck. I'm still looking as well.

Hm... I just sent out a million (give or take. lol.) applications to families looking for childcare so I guess we'll see how it goes... I do think the way the site is set up is kind of crappy. I have an Army buddy (reserves, also) who found a couple part time jobs in this area through them, so I don't think it's a total scam.

I just signed up with Sittercity, too, so I guess I'll see if I have better luck with them.

Are there any other resources you are using to try to find a childcare gig?

Do the families not get the application messages that you send out? I've had a couple messages go back and forth with families in this area but it didn't work out. One replied to my message asking about my availability and then I never heard back after I responded. The other, sent me a message but I didn't see it until way later because it was at the end of September and I was just too overwhelmed with pregnancy and life in general and hadn't logged on to check, mainly because I had previously gotten emails telling me if I had a message.

I'm on sittercity.com but I'm looking for help...one of the nannies I interviewed recommended care.com to me because they do more to verify nannies/sitters (verify address, past education, etc.) And she said it was cheaper for parents to post positions. Apparently everyone who is on care.com looking for work is also on sittercity. If you don't like care.com, perhaps you can check out sittercity?

Hi there! I am a part of the Membercare team at Care. com. I'm sorry you are having trouble hearing back from families on the site. We do have lots of families all across the US looking for care but as you have experienced sometimes they get a little preoccupied and don't get back right away. I can understand your frustration if you haven't heard back recently but I encourage you to just keep applying. Having the background check is a great first step! It is just a matter of time before you find a great position. Meanwhile check out the article on our site called 14 Ways to Get Families to Respond to You on Care. com. It is full of great tips on reaching out to families. Good luck!

I found my nanny on Care.com and also used it when I had my live in nanny. Never have had a problem hiring. IMO the more you promote and and ad to your profile those are the most likely to get hits. Good luck.

Well good to hear a couple of you had pos experiences with care.com! The reviews I read were all just bad but I'm glad it seems to at least be partially legit.
