What do you do for a living, or what did you do for a living before having a family? What brought you to that career? Do you plan on sticking with it, or do you foresee any career changes in the future?

I am a photographer and I own my own business. My kids brought me into it, as I initially started just wanting to take nice pics of my kids and it sort of blossomed from there. I love it because it gives us extra $$ and allows me to set my own schedule. I'm also not cheap, so that doesn't make me insanely busy so I still have time to spend with my family (because I have a really hard time saying "no" to people who want to pay me, lol!). I don't see me giving up photography any time soon. I thought I would take the last quarter of the year off, but I missed photographing people too much and ended my maternity leave early!

Katherine, you're very talented! I can't believe you're self-taught!

I was a reading specialist before becoming a SAHM. I've been reading to Sean since he was in the womb! I don't plan to go to work until we're done with having kids and they are in school. Even then I'll probably only work part-time. I'm certified in the Wilson Reading System so between that and my reading specialist certification I can always tutor if we need extra money. I started teaching because I loved kids and was always good with them. I specialized in reading because I've always been a voracious reader and wanted to pass on that love to children and help struggling readers love to read.

I am a 7th and 8th grade Social Studies Teacher. I've been a teacher for the past 7 years. My first year, I was a Spanish Teacher. I plan to teach Madalyn Spanish. I'm having mixed feelings about continuing my career now that Madalyn is here, but I think once I get back into the swing of things, it will all fall into place.

I've been a nurse for the past 7 years and love it. After I had Ryan, it was hard but not too hard to go back to work, but this time is different. There's been so much drama at work lately, I'm really not looking forward to going back Jan 2nd. If I could change careers & get paid what I do now, I would, so we'll see what happens.

I am a registered nurse and worked in the community before going on mat leave. I will probably go back casual when I return to work next November. We have a lot going on and I don't think that going back full time is the right decision.

I love my career and I like my job. I always wanted to be a doctor and nursing didn't even cross my mind until after I graduated with my first degree. I'm glad I gave it a chance because I really do love being a nurse and I am good at what I do

I've been a dog groomer the past 7 years. It's ok; the main reason I don't "love" it is because it's a small shop and with only 3 of us there, there' quite some drama going on. Can't stand that.
But it looks like I'm going to be staying with Emmy now, which is my dream anyway! I need to find a nanny position to bring in extra money because we can't afford for me to stay home completely.

I am the assistant to the President & VP of a non-profit company, Louisiana Farm Bureau. I love my job & my bosses. Even though its full time, they are very laid back & family comes first. I carry the insurance for our family, & have a pretty decent salary + company car. It would be really hard financially for me to quit, & I'm just not cut out to be a SAHM, but think those that do are awesome!

I have been in college the past 4 years and just finished as you ladies know. I am now a occupational therapist assistant. My first son that we lost was my inspiration to become a therapist. He had many therapist and I would see them come in and work with him. Since going through school and doing fieldwork my passion has become even stronger. I thought I would work with children at first but as I got more into it I realized I also enjoy working with elder adults. I am so looking forward to starting my career. Unfortunatly because I live in a rural area the job search has been more then I thought it would be. I got a job that was suppose to start out at 20 hrs a week, well they called me this week to tell me now they only have 8 hrs of work a week for me. So it seems I will be working there and somewhere else because 8 hrs isn't going to cut it for me. Hopefully in the end it will all work out though.

Hehe funny you should ask...

I have a BA in Theatre Arts...I graduated in 2006, and my first job out of college was as a teacher's aide. I went on to work for the next few years, until I got pregnant, in preschools. I've taught every age except 2 year olds, though I did sub in the 2 year old room on occasion.

In between jobs I have also done things like telemarketing, working at a gold buying store (I got to be one of those people who tests gold to see if it's real and buys it off people), and I also worked at a toy store for a while. I also did use my theatre degree working at a community theater as a stage manager for a while.

In 2010 I went back to school to be an elementary school teacher. I'm supposed to graduate in 2014, but I just was informed that I was not approved for my student loan this semester...so I had to withdraw from school. But some soul searching led me to realize that I do not really want to be a teacher, and now that I have Michael, I just want to be a stay at home mom and possibly do something like work in a bookstore, or even open my own one day.

Dreams change.

I'm a professor at a university - working in the college of Arts and Sciences. I've been in the same job for over 11 years. i have tenure so it's hard to imagine me leaving this job any time soon. I have a PhD in a related area but since having kids my career has taken a dive. I'm currently chair of a department but will be resigning from that post in June as it's just too much with two kids. I must get back into some research, though honestly I prefer spending time with my kids and dont fancy locking myself up in my office in the evenings and on the weekends to get manuscripts written.

I have considered returning to medical school but that is probably a horrible idea

My current job affords a lot of flexibility. I create my own schedule and no one monitors my whereabouts. I can work at home, if I like, and as long as i show up to teach my classes no one really thinks about it.

I was/am an Accountant/Auditor. When we moved away from my job, my boss offered me a work-from-home position. I jumped at the chance since we were trying to get pregnant and I knew I wanted to stay at home with them. Before Claire I traveled some, but that really isn't possible anymore. It is really perfect and flexible, and I love my boss. I can stay current in my field, keep relationships with clients, and I feel like my degrees aren't going to waste. Right now I work between 0-15 hours a week, depending on how much time I can find in my days to squeeze in a little number-crunching Numbers relax me.

At this point I plan to homeschool and don't plan to return to a go-to-the-office kind of job. It's nice to know I could, though, if I ever wanted.

For the past 14 years I taught Head Start for the school district. I resigned this past May. We were to move to Georgia in June and the military kept us here in California. It was meant to be because I love staying home Jonah. I can be a sub anytime I am ready..don't think I will be ready anytime soon

Loving all the education folks!

My undergrad is in Early Childhood, and before getting married I taught preschool for 2 years. After getting married in 2009 I went back to grad school for Speech Pathology. I finished grad school in May (at 17 weeks pregnant), and finally got a job offer in late July.

In August I started working as an SLP in an inclusive preschool, working with kids with special needs inside of their classroom environment. It's perfect for me, and LOVE what I do. I only worked 10 weeks before maternity leave though.

I'll go back Jan 2nd. I really have the most ideal situation for a full time working mom, because there's an infant room at the school I work in and Nora will go there. I get to nurse her through the day and can go get her whenever I want (while Im at lunch, etc), so I'm really lucky.

I'm still dreading the separation though !
