Is this safe? Unsafe? Do any of you live near them? How close?

I've been away for awhile because I've been getting the house ready to sell, by the way. Missed you guys!

I grew up in the Midwest...gas lines and gas wells everywhere. I don't think it is a big deal at all.

How close were they to your home? That's one of the reasons I want to sell ours. This study freaked me out:

Study of health impacts in air near fracking sites | Newsroom | University of Colorado Denver

Also, the documentary, Gasland, freaked me out.

I grew up out by the panhandle of Oklahoma. They were all over out there then. And my Dad worked out there on the oil rigs.

I dont really know much though about them....but just wanted to share b/c we were safe out there.

I've heard they release toxic vapors into the environment and those living near they (like within a half a mile) are affected the most. 66% higher cancer rates or something... very alarming!

I live around them, not sure how close the closest one is but I would think its a mile or maybe a few mile. I am not really worried about myself. Not much I can do about but move and that isn't going to happen. Most of them are capped right now too so not sure if that matters or not lol.

Do you mean finding out if they are capped? From what I understand they put the wells in but then gas prices went back down so they capped them all and they are waiting tell gas prices go back up and then they will start them all up when they can make more money.

I'm pretty sure they are capped. Doesn't that mean the huge tower isn't there and nothing is going on? If they are capped, is the worry still there? Do they leak methane gas and other pollutants?

Yea the huge tower is gone. I have no idea if they are letting anything. I would think its possible that they are but of course more risk when they are not capped.

Hmmm, okay. Thanks for the info! I wish there was a way I could find out for sure. I don't want to worry about it if there is nothing to worry about.

Do you know the names of the gas wells companies? If so I would look for a website or a person to contact that you can call. Encana is a big company around here.

I do know the name! I thought about calling, but wasn't sure if they would be honest in their responses, but who knows. I guess I will give it a shot.
