My hubby we be deploying very soon and I usually make him a card to open daily. I also have gifts for him to open every month. Honestly, it's a lot of work making the cards because I hand make them and it's card thinking up something to say that's different for each day. Is there anything that you do special for your hubby while he is deployed??? There is only one mail drop but maybe none this time around. Everything I make for him he brings onto the ship before it leaves. I would love some new ideas!!!!

Sometimes space is an issue, so instead of cards I have done a jar with strips of paper for every day....like one thing I love about him, special memories that we have shared, or things that we are looking forward to when he comes home.

I usually send special sauces or spices so he can "doctor up" the nasty food

I send pics of the kids whenever possible...email, paper photos, etc. and lots of little stories about things they do/say.

Mostly I just try to reassure him that we are okay and doing well so he doesn't worry too much about us. If he knows that we are doing great, he can relax and focus on his job.

I didn't remember you were a military wife...now I'm curious to see how many of us there are!

Im not a military wife but while my DF was away from me in college on a football scholarship I wrote him a letter every single day about different things much like in the movie the notebook of youve seen that and when he came home I gave them to him, there was a lot but he read them all. It was really nice.

He actually gets fed really really well lol..he comes home missing the food lol. I really like the jar idea a lot! That's something different from what I normally do. I do all the pictures and emails. I am actually making a book of our life using stickers (he loves stickers) and photos. He will open it on our anniversary which will also be the halfway mark. Oh and cards for all the holidays and his bday. I may be doing the jar though

Will he have phone/email access? I don't know a lot about Navy deployments and how it works when they are on a ship.

That's awesome! So glad you'll be able to keep in touch that way!

Claire actually said "Dada" for the first time while talking to DH on Skype

Wish we could Skype! This weekend Aaron will be reading books on video and just talking to Jonah like he does now..silly faces etc. Things to make baby smile. Aaron and I did face time on our iPads the other day to see if the baby would recognize daddy on the screen and he did..he had big smiles So doing the videos will be great knowing he knows that's daddy on the screen.

Love the videos idea...we will definitely have to do that next time.

Bleh...it sucks that there is always a "next time."

I know. This one will be the last one while he is with this command. Then he will be leaving for a school in Chicago for 3 months then we will be moving after the school. I don't know when the "next time" will be after we move. It would be great of we got a full year without any deployments or trainings blah blah blah.

Not a military wife anymore (DH was Air Force and has been out for about 6 years-but dad was Navy all my life). I was definitely going to suggest him reading videos you can play for your LO so that he can recognize the voice. Also, look into getting photos done from OpLove! I'm an OpLove photog and we offer free sessions to deploying military and then I send out a 4x6 album of the photos to the deployed member (unless he can't get mail).

That is absolutely wonderful...never knew anything like that existed. There might not be any mail drops this deployment but if there were I can't send anything bigger than a card envelope
