Any knitters? I'm thinking of taking up knitting, especially since I'm in love with the animal hats and would rather make them myself instead of purchasing on Etsy all the time.

What are the basics I would need to get started? Any recommended books or websites to help me learn?

I don't knit...I used to know how but haven't even tried for years. I do crochet, though! They have awesome kits at Walmart/Hobby Lobby/Michaels with an instruction book, needles, and a few basics to get you started. I would try one of those and start with a small project like a potholder or something; then you can work your way up to a larger project like an afghan or clothing.

Ravelry.com has great patterns; lots of them free. I mostly crochet but they have both.

I ended up ordering both a learn to knit and learn to crochet kit from Amazon. Neither were that expensive so I figure I'd learn both and see which I like. I am not really sure of the difference, though.

I knit and crochet. I definitely second knittinghelp.com. They have tons of videos on YouTube that have helped me with particular stitches. I've made all sorts of things, including William's coming home outfit <3
