Meghan hasn't pooped in three days. I know this usually isn't an issue, but she is straining so hard and is making herself spit up and is having trouble sleeping. Any suggestions??? Thanks!!!

***Update***
So the pharmacist at Walgreens recommended Pedialax, which is a liquid glycerin suppository. You insert the tube & squeeze the bulb at the end. Seriously within one minute she started to strain. Passed about a large marble size that was pretty firm, then a good normal soft bm after that. Poor baby strained so hard she was shaking. After that though you could tell she felt SO much better. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!

Hannah was pretty constipated until I started using warm water to make every bottle and made sure the scoops were not packed. Now she poops at least 2 times a day. I shake the formula canister to unpack it then scoop it up, and there is always an unfilled space in the bottom of the scoop. It made SO much difference. If you do that already, I'd consider a formula switch. We use Gerber Gentle and love it!

Pear juice or strained prune juice (use coffee filter) in her bottle will help get the train moving again. I know there are suppositories you can use if she needs help immediately, but I have no experience with those.

I hope she's feeling better soon!

You can do bicycle exercises with her legs, it's moving her legs as if she was peddling a bike, it's suppose to help loosen things up down there for em. If things get real bad you can always give her a supporitory, that makes them poop right away and alot fyi.

You can try taking a rectal temp to stimulate things, give her a warm bath or gently massage her belly.

Warm baths always work for us, and same for belly massage. Just firmly massage clockwise across for belly

Ditto to everything all the girls have said.....bicycle her legs, warm bath, tummy massage and suppository if needed. Our pedi told us 1/2 a glycerin suppository when Madilyn went 5 days once. It worked within about 30 mins. You might keep her on a towel & undressed though bc/it tends to be a blow-out.
Hope your LO feels better soon & gets some relief!

Just heard back from the pediatrician. Told me to do the tip of a glycerin suppository, then start putting one teaspoon of dark karo syrup in her bottle. Of course, back off if her bm's start to get loose. We'll see!

Jayden only goes once every other day or once every 3 days at the most. I have tried all of these things and nothing made it more frequent. The warm water did make his stool a lot more mushy though.

Hope she went. I was giving Luyando about 1oz warm water everyday for a while there to make her go. I know people say all the water they need is in breastmilk but her poop was super thick and I could see that she was having problems getting it out. Once she had water regularly, the poop was more liquidy and less like paste. I used 1/4 pedialax (suppository 2ce when she hadn't gone for 5 days. Now her system has fixed itself or she is stronger and able to push it out; she now goes at least every other day and I rarely have to give her water.
