It's really nice out today and I was thinking of taking Emmy out into the sunshine but I'm not sure if it's "safe". When should we start putting sunscreen on our babies??

I always thought it was 6 months but I could be way off on that. Just keep a hat on her little noggin, and dress her in something lightweight/light colored so she's not too hot, but enough so she's got some protection from the sun. Try and keep her out of the direct sun during peak hours, like if you're sitting at the beach of park, you could sit her under and umbrella to protect her, etc.

Not sure about the appropriate age, but I know Madalyn is going to need it. I am very fair-skinned and I don't want her to get burned!! I have to wear sunscreen on my face all year round!

I think it's 6 months too. It's been really nice here this past week and I have been putting an oversized hat on Jonah.

My doctor said 6 months but if we have to use it before then to look for a natural one. I bought California Baby for our trip but also would have bought Badger.

Not before 6 months. Just keep a hat on her head. There are also the little rash guards for babies that have UV protection if you are somewhere really sunny. We use Badger Organic sunscreen in the summertime at our house.

We've used a couple of times already. We just finished summer here in the skin cancer capital of the world so the benefit of sunscreen outweighed the cost for us. In general though I try to keep my dds inside when its too sunny.

I've heard about how intense the uv index is there. I'd put Jett in sunscreen early too if I lived there.

I never wore a whole bunch growing up in San Diego, but that was at sea level. Denver's altitude is 5,280 ft. Way closer to the sun, and you can feel it here. We'll have to keep him in some. Soccer season is starting for my DSD so depending on the day, he might need some.

Neutrogena makes a nice baby sunscreen. I prob won't use it till 6 months, that's about when it will start to get hot. Michael will need it though because he is so fair skinned. Levi burns just thinking about the sun and Michael has his complexion!

Thanks for all the responses! I read up on it again and I did read 6 months at the earliest, generally. I'll try to find a baby Sunhat somewhere. I don't think ive ever seen any. Lol. I bet target will have them soon though, with the rest of their summer stuff. I was planning on using California baby sunscreen since their toxicity rating is low.

Hey girls! I'm going to Florida in April and my son will be not quite 6 months yet, he'll be about 5.5 months when we leave. Do you think it would be safe to use a natural sunscreen at that point?

I myself honestly would not. I would put a large floppy hat on him...like a bucket hat. Dress him in light clothes and keep him out of direct sunlight for an extended period of time. I don't know what your plans are for when your there. Beach..Disneyworld???

I have one of these hats for him: Amazon.com: i play. Sunhat, Yellow - 6-18 Months: Clothing

I also bought a rash guard top but I'm just worried about when he's out in the sun with us. We're going to Miami Beach and Disney World so there will be quite a bit of sun we need to protect him from. I think I might also buy a bigger sun shade for his stroller and an umbrella for the beach. What about when we take him in the pool, or when he's not in shade - I'll do my best to keep him under something most of the time but I feel like it's unavoidable sometimes!

Thank you, I'll look into that!

I was always told 6 months. Raylee was born in Jan so I just used a lot of hats with her and didn't put her in direct sunlight. I did use a little if I was going to be in the sun for a while.
