I had read this before from another source, but did you know that the composition of breastmilk changes as the day progresses? Morning breastmilk has properties to help baby wake up and become active, evening breastmilk has properties to help with the production of melatonin and to encourage sleep. AWESOME!! But, it also gives those who pump and bottle feed something extra to think about! The recommendation is actually that you try to feed pumped milk from around the same time of day as when the milk was originally pumped. For instance, you wouldn't want to give milk pumped at 7am to a baby at bedtime... it would be like giving coffee to an adult right before bed. There are lots of articles out there, but here is one if you want to read more! Breastmilk sure is FASCINATING!! Evening breast milk means a good sleep - life - 02 October 2009 - New Scientist
