We survived our first road-trip

About this time last year I was put on bed rest...then came more strict bed rest, living in the hospital for 4 weeks, and then a cold and flu season with preemies. Needless to say we have been spending most of our time at home, and I was starting to feel trapped. With our sanity quickly evaporating, we decided that a long weekend trip was just what we needed!

4 days, 3 nights, 2 hotels, 10+ hours in the car, 6 restaurants, a museum, an aquarium and the beach...all with 3 kids under 3, and we survived The kids did really well in the car (which bodes well for our planned 2700+ mile road trip later this summer), and they did great sleeping away from home (I had been worried about that). Claire LOVED the beach...I think she could have stayed there scooping sand and building sandcastles forever

DH and I feel quite refreshed; I'm glad we decided to go for it!

Kristen, go for it! Our drive this summer will be 23-ish hours

3-across in DH's SUV (we wanted to take it to drive on the beach):

We have an older Toyota LandCruiser. The seats are Diono Radian RXTs, and they are the most narrow convertible seat out there. They are awesome seats in general, but we love them especially because when we do any kind of outdoorsy/camping/off-roading type stuff we need to go 3-across. You can do 3-across with them in a lot of SUVs and even cars!

Nina, Erin is moving to Rhode Island. That is one heck of a road trip driving from Cali to RI!

Melissa, sounds like a great time! We're going to go with the Diono Radian, too. I think I even want to do that Trekk pattern that George has!

Oh Melissa, your kids look so precious! Is Abigail the one seating by the door? She has grown so big! They are growing so fast. Glad the trip went well. I am sure your next one will too.

Yes, Abigail is by the door...they are all getting so big. They turned 8 months old over the weekend...how can they be that old already?!?

Robyn, the Trekk pattern is awesome...I really love it. I will say that both the Plum and the Trekk material are more of a velvety material that doesn't breathe well. Claire's seat is actually the Sunshine Kids Radian XTSL (the version before the company changed their name) and the fabric is a more breathable mesh-y material. I kind of wish they were all the more breathable fabric, but oh well

The best thing about this trip was that we tried out our packing list for our trip later this summer and now we have an even better idea of what we need, what we don't, and how to pack it

That's strange about those patterns. I was also eyeing the Daytona color. I wonder if that's the more breathable kind. Sean gets hot easily so I think breathable would be good for him.

Robyn, the Daytona material definitely looks different than the Plum or the Trekk in the pictures (I was looking at the pics on Amazon) but it is hard to tell if it is more breatheable or just different. I wish they were available at more stores to play with!
