These were taken during our trip to Moore helping in the cleanup. The destruction was terrible but the experience of being a part of the cleanup was something you wouldn't believe unless you were there. Apache helicopters flying overhead, National Guardsmen patrolling the area, people stopping constantly offering free lunch to volunteers as well as water and gatorade, men walking around with chainsaws ready to cut down support beams to houses or toppled trees.

While it was a somber event with lives lost, the humanity that came from it and the people that came together to help these people in their time of need was nothing short of amazing.

Our friends car.....that is the garage. I was standing in his living room.

My daughter assisting in the cleanup.

Air National Guard came in with a sledgehammer to break a support beam that was giving us problems.

The bathtub that saved our friends life. And yes that's his kitchen sink sitting on top of it.

We stopped to help the people here right their car that ended up on top of their house.

The neighborhood we were assigned to. Absolutely decimated.

Oh, man. How awful. So nice of you to help!

I remember how bad our neighborhood looked after the tornado, here. Several houses were leveled. Many (including ours) had extensive damage. Police guards blocking entrance to everyone but residence. Helicopters.

Still nothing compared to this.

Goodness! That's unbelievable. How do you decide where to even start?! so your friend was in his bathtub when the tornado went through and he survived?!? I remember you posting on fb about him, right? Just unbelievable seeing that distraction and knowing someone survived it!

Yeah Nina it's the same one. He was incredibly lucky. He ended up getting tossed out and ended up in his neighbors yard with an old fashioned tub landing upside down on him. It's the only thing that saved his life from what the FEMA guy was saying. As for where to start, we started looking for his computer to get the hard drives out of it and we just moved outward from there. There wasn't much to save sadly. We found a bunch of pictures in the middle of the house from the people down the road. My daughter saw them and remembered their faces in the pictures so she took them back to them. They had tears in their eyes and called her one of the sweetest kids they had ever met.

Thank goodness your niece was okay.

Unbelievable. I see destruction like this and say a quick prayer of thanks... It could easily happen where I live, too. Good for you and your family for helping out, Im sure it was so well appreciated.
