This frosting is perfect for cakes, cupcakes, cookie sandwiches, basically anything you need frosting for. I love it because it’s super easy and super delicious. Warning: it is very, very sweet.
Makes enough for one cake (for example, one cake made from a boxed mix)
˝ cup Crisco shortening
˝ cup butter (softened)
1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract (Regular vanilla can be used, but will turn your frosting a beige color rather than white)
4 cups (1 lb) confectioner’s (powdered) sugar
2 tablespoons milk (or more, to desired consistency)
1. In a large bowl, cream together with a mixer the shortening, butter, and vanilla.
2. Add the sugar in portions, blending together until smooth. Scrape sides of bowl often. Frosting becomes very stiff as more sugar is added, so adding in portions just makes it easier to blend.
3. Blend in the milk one tablespoon at a time until it has reached the desired consistency. You can add more milk for a smoother, softer frosting.
