We arrived to the hospital for our induction a little before midnight on Monday morning. When we first got there we were told there were no beds open and we would have to go home and reschedule with the doctor… I would not have this, I told them they needed to figure it out and they did. I waited in the waiting room for about 20 minutes and the doctor came out to take me back to a triage room for an NST. At 3:30 I was transferred to a labor and delivery room. When they checked me I was still only 1cm dilated with a very thick cervix. They gave me a prostaglandin gel and let it sit for an hour. At 4:40 I went walking around the hospital for 40 minutes. Then they hooked me back up to the monitors and at 6:00 I was almost 3 cm and they gave me a second gel. At 7:00 I started having a lot of bloody show and walked again for 30 minutes. At 8:00 I was still 3cm so at 8:30 they started the Pitocin at 2 ml/hr and I got on the birthing ball. They monitored my contractions to keep them strong and constant and kept upping the Pitocin (ouch) By the time I delivered I was at 14 ml/hr. At 11:30 I was still 3cm but my cervix was thinner. At 12:30 the doctor broke my water. At 2:00 I finally got an epidural, the pain from the last time they upped the Pitocin was too much for me. I was finally able to get a nap in at this point. At 2:30 I was almost 5cm. At 5:00 I was 9cm! I started pushing at 6:30 and only had to push for an hour and 10 minutes. After his head came out his shoulders got stuck, he was much bigger than anyone expected. Two nurses came to my sides and stood over me pushing him out from my stomach and the doctor was grabbing him from inside, it was very rough. She had to cut me and I still tore, on both sides (ouch again) By the time they got him out he was in a little bit of a shock from all of that so they cut the cord and took him away before I could hold him or anything. It was very scary because I could hear that he wasn’t crying. Soon enough they got him crying and everything turned out okay. I got to hold him and successfully breast fed him for the first time at 9:25.
