Suppose that income taxes still had to be paid, but instead of going to the government, your tax dollars would go to any cause or charity of your choice. Assuming that money would have to go to the same place every year --- where would you want it to go?

The Smile Train: The World's Leading Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Charity

Doctors and nurses go to 3rd world countries and repair cleft lips and palates. There are lots of superstitions in many of those countries against children and people with cleft lips and palates. Those kids are often hidden in their homes like lepers. They do not go to school. As adults they struggle to find work. Most, especially the girls, do not marry. That's not to mention the feeding problems and speech problems many of the children have.

Many of them need just one simple outpatient surgery to fix all their problems.

It would go to my church to use at all the various things to do outreach for all the time...from our soup kitchen to our missions, all the way to our church giving tree. As I get more imvolved I am still in shock to see how much our church does for the community.
