My husband is taking a western civilization college course and I read the textbook out loud to him. The chapter we read today was on the Hebrew people and the history. There was one thing it wasn't quite clear on that I was wondering if someone could clear up my confusion.

The textbook said that the Jewish people's religious text is the Old Testment. But it also said something about the Torah being the first 5 books of the Bible. For some reason I was under the impression that Jewish people ONLY read the Torah. The text was really unclear as to whether that is the case. So my question is do you read/consider your scriptures to be the Torah or the entire Old Testament?

I know this is a pretty trivial question, but thanks for answering it anyway!
