Thankfully this time, we'll have someone to watch our girls. With my second, we couldn't get a hold of anyone to watch DD, so she was in the room, so DH was more focused on her than me, which is understandable. I'd like to look into techniques that DH can help me with labor. I'm not opposed to the epi, but this is my last shot and I'd like to do it the way I always thought I would.

Consider hypnobirthing. Dh was so happy with how involved he got to be and is already excited to do it again. It was a wonderful experience for me.

With DS I wanted to go natural, but ended up with an epi at some point. Not really sure when because I didn't ask for it DH told them I needed it and I was so worn out from being in the hospital for almost 20hrs that I didn't fight it. Then after that I ended up with an emergency section anyway since I never dilated.

This time around I will plan a section and the only other thing that I will plan on my own is to schedule on the day that the OB who delivered DS is on call so he can do this one too. He was great. Other than that I'll go with the flow.

I don't really make a birth plan. I may try one if I make it past 36 weeks, but that's pushing my luck. I love and trust my OB explicitly and will have great support with me in the L&D room, so anything that needs to be done I am good with.

I will have an epi though. And probably drugs beforehand too.

I want this birth to go just like last time. The nurses even told me I had a perfect textbook labor/birth, it was just so quick and easy!

I'm going to go all natural with no pain meds, have the baby placed on me immediately and definitely delay the cord clamping until all of the blood has reached the baby. Also, I want to breast feed as soon as I can.

I agree! This is a totally new idea for me to consider. DH and I started talking about birth plans after watching "The Business of Being Born", but there's so much I don't know. Thank you all for sharing your stories.

I love hearing all the different birth plans. With DS I was just pretty much like give me whatever drugs you have. The nurses were very rude to me and didnt take me very serious. When i asked for a birthing ball my nurse told me no. i don't know if its because she just didn't want to get me one or what. One of my nurses also played with my hair while I was having a contraction. I hate to sound like a diva but i will prob ask not to be touched unnecessarily during labor. Lol is also like to take some classes to learn how to deal with the pain naturally

Angie- I have been dying to watch the business of being born!

It's amazing! We saw it on netflix instant streaming. Not sure if it's still available, but I recommend everyone see it!

I have had two inductions and both were very pleasant. I expect to be induced a third time with this baby because once my water breaks, the baby is born very quickly. With both I had pitocin, epidurals, IV fluids, etc., but I enjoyed both my labors immensely. I pretty much just go with whatever my doctor suggests.

I'm really on the fence. I've always wanted a water birth but I was so afraid of the pain with my first that I went into the hospital and had pitocin and an epidural as per dr's ordered. It was a very easy birth. So I sorta want to do it again. But I've heard horror stories from both sides... Errr...
Yeah so I have no idea.

With my first I was induced with pitocin and had an epi. The birth was fine, but after I had DD#2 all natural, I want to do it naturally again. I labored in the water and had hoped to have her in the water but they had me get out to check me and check her, and I went from 5cm to 10cm and pushing in 20 min, so no time to get back in. I felt WONDERFUL afterwards. They let her nurse right away - before they even cut the cord or weighed her. After I nursed her they took her to be weighed and washed, and I walked to the recovery room, got right in the shower and felt like I could go work out. The difference between having and epi and doing it natural was so amazing, I want to do it naturally 100% again.

My birth plan got thrown for a loop yesterday when we found out we'r expecting twins though...so right now I need to find an OB since my midwfe doesn't do twin deliveries. i know I don't want to plan on a csection (although I will not say I won't EVER have one, the most important thing for me is to have the babies and have them be ok) but I'd like to have them naturally if I can! And hopefully they'll let me labor in the water.

I´m not going to have one this time. Both times my births have been decided by the circumstances and me planning it a certain way just made me feel a bit let down when it didnt happen that way.

DD1 Was induced as I broke waters and had no contractions, so after 36 hours they started the oxitocina (like pit). I had an epi at 3cm (30 minutes in) and she was born 4 hours later. The epi was only a localised one so I could walk and move around. The recovery was perfect and we were home the next day.

DD2 Was similar, I broke waters and no contractions, but I started on my own at 5am and she was born at 8.10. No epi, no gas and air, no I/V, no Dr as there were no problems it was a midwife delivery.

The hospital policy is no unnecessary monitoring, I/Vs, exams, moving from room to room etc and then they deliver the baby straight onto your chest and you feed it straight away. Cord cutting, weighing and everything apart from the 1 minute and 5 minute checks are left as long as possible. then you have your baby with you until you are discharged.
