You know it never occurred to me but you are so right! If I have a real and headache I take a bath and it goes away. If im feeling just blah I take a bath and feel better. I wonder if this might be an option for me. Hm....

I think it would be kind of cool, but then I think about all the "stuff" that would be floating around in the water. I've heard stories of them having to have a fish net nearby and that part kind of creeps me out. I think it would be awesome to have a a tub to labor in though and then switch out to a bed for the actual delivery.

Yeah, I would't want to deliver the baby in there but I bet it is relaxing. If you want one though go for it! Talk to your dr/ midwife and make sure it's a possibility, because your early enough that you can switch easily to a provider who is supportive of it

The thought is nice, but I'm 100% epidural ready so no water birth for me

im terrified of the epi... everyone says that will change when i go into labor lol, it doesnt matter if i give birth in the water or if i can just lay in the tub for the contractions, the hospital im going to has rooms with tubs next to the bed!!! i just think its right for me.. i would rather be in a relaxing warm tub then in a bed for the contractions. i dont handle pain well so this is my plain for now, who what will happen on the day of delivery.

I had a water birth with my second and plan to have one this time (4th) as well. The reasons why I didn't do water with my 3rd are complicated and have nothing to do with birthing in water

So, yes. There is a fish net nearby because sometimes you poo while pushing. You don't want that in there. However, it's not because you are in water and would happen on a table as well. They wipe it up when you do it there too. Also yes, there will be "stuff" floating around after the birth, but you will not care. I can't remember anything like that to be honest, but there must have been because birth is messy. Personally, I'd rather be in water at least getting rinsed off than be on a bed lying in all that. Either way though, you won't notice because nothing matter once the baby is born.

My water birth was my fastest. I had the most control because I wasn't tied to an IV and it was the least painful because the water absorbs some of the contractions. You are so buoyant in water and you can get into so many different positions with little effort because the water is holding you up. Also the water birth was the easiest transition for the baby. My 1st and 3rd went immediately to crying. My 2nd came out of the water and just looked up at me for a few minutes. Her body was still in the water and it wasn't as much of a shock, I guess. I kept asking the midwife if something was wrong because she wasn't crying! When they took her to be measured, she sure started up though! And she cried nearly non-stop the entire time we were at the hospital and most of her first year.

If water birth is an option in your area, I'd definitely look into it.

I would REALLY love to do water birth. I plan to talk to my doctor and see if it's available. I'm not willing to change doctors if not, because he's amazing, but I sincerely hope it's an option.

It sounds nice, but isn't an option at my hospital.

It sounds nice, but I don't think it's for me. I have given birth on a bed three times and this one won't be any different-

I won't want to have have an epidural so I need that IV hooked up for pain meds if necessary

I really want a water birth and my hospital does offer it but I think my options are differnt because its not a singleton. I need to read up on hospital policy. but like you when ever I am stressed, need to clear my head, or just don't feel good I shower or bathe. lol but I am a water bug. I've swam competitively most of my life.

I think most hospitals will let you labor in the tub, but not actually give birth in it. I wanted to labor in it so bad with my ds, but then once I was in strong labor I was so nauseous and dizzy that I no longer wanted to. If my labor doesn't go so harsh and fast this time I will definitely try it though!

If I could have a water birth, I'd definitely do that. If I decide to have a VBAC, my doctor probably won't allow that since I'll need constant monitoring. But warm baths have always taken away menstrual cramps, I'm sure they help tremendously in labor pains.

Our hospital does water births and I planned to have one with DD#2. I labored in the water for a few hours and then they had me get out to do some monitoring. I was planning on going back in but while they were checking me I went from 5cm to 10cm and needed to push in less than 20 min. There was no time to get back in the tub and she was out in one push (at over 9 lbs!)

I was totally planning on doing a water birth this time, but since I'm having twins I don't think that will be possible, but we'll see. Laboring in the water did help a LOT so I hope I'll be able to do that again.
