I've been to a couple stores looking for maternity clothes and the tops aren't working for me. They aren't the way they were a few years ago. They seem too tight to me. They probably look cute on 20-somethings that are tiny and have never been pregnant but, they aren't looking too cute on me right now in my in between stage. I miss flowy maternity tops. I haven't tried Motherhood or Kohls yet, so I guess I can try there later.

I didn't find any maternity clothes I like, but I found 3 cute regular dresses in a larger size that have tummy room so I guess that is what I'll be wearing for a while.

I've had a heck of time finding shirts I like too, I don't like them tight either. I did find a few I liked at old navy last month, and thankfully I still have a few from my last pregnancy.

Thankfully I don't need them yet, so I still have plenty of time to find clothes I do like.

If you can't find a style in maternity that you like, you can try at a regular clothing store and just get that flowy type top where it pulls in right under the boobs and flows out underneath. They sell em everywhere, it's pretty much what I wore all through my last pregnany. I found a few flowy shirts that are motherhood this time. I don't like the very tight look either, I prefer the flowy types.

Kinda like this: Target.com : Furniture, Baby, Electronics, Toys,...: Target

where it ties under the boobs, and then flows a lot below that. With that type of shirt, it leaves a lot of belly room and doesn't make me look gigantic... and they have them everywhere, not just maternity stuff.

This style I do NOT like for this early in the pregnancy because it makes me feel like a whale: Merona® Maternity Short-Sleeve Scoop-Neck Fashio... : Target

but I do love the shirt for later on in the pregnancy when I have a real big belly to show off instead of the donut looking one

They actually have a HUGE selection of cute maternity shirts on there!

I have had the same problem! The ones I've tried on are skin tight and go down to like my knees. Why in the world would I want every bra/underware/panty line from here to eternity exposed is beyond me. And why so friggin long? I'm 5'8" and these shirts are practically as long as some dresses I own. Don't get it at all.

I prefer a tighter top (I have sensory issues and can't stand loose clothing-it seriously makes my skin crawl!). What I don't understand is shirts with the band on them like this:
Short Sleeve Cowl Neck Side Ruched Maternity T Shirt | Motherhood Maternity

That shirt will only work when your huge! I just prefer to have clothes that I can wear not pregnant. I have some shirts that may work and I just look for longer tops and will be living in skirts and dresses this summer, lol!

Sarah, I have some flowy type tops I'm still wearing. I will probably just stick to those for the most part. At least those are in and readily available or I might be wearing hubby's big old tees. LOL

Katherine, I know what you mean about the band. Some of the tops looked like they would be cute when my tummy is huge, but not now. Unfortunately I got too much love handle going on for tight tops. I wish I had dropped those 20 lbs. before I got pregnant... oh well! LOL there's always next Summer!

I don't understand it either. Also, why do all the shirts have horizontal stripes?! It's so hard to find shirts that do not have horizontal stripes. I don't need to look wider when I'm already bigger than usual from the belly and boobs!

OMG I was wondering that too about the stripes! Also a lot of the tops would have been decent but, there were a bunch with weird metallic graphics on them... I mean I get there's 16 and pregnant and all BUT, I'm 31! lol

16 and pregnant! You made me lol! I feel the same, I'm 34 and just want to be comfortable. Maternity clothes seem to either be too glam or make you look like a giant toddler. Anyone remember the giant sailor shirts with bib collars trimmed in lace that seemed all you could find for maternity? Well I do, glad that went out!

Sorry you are having a hard time finding something you like! Definitely try Motherhood, I loved that place and always shopped in the least expensive section rather than the most expensive, lol! I hope you can find some good things

I hear you on the rant. I hate when you can't find what you want or need. Especially at a reasonable price.

I tend to go for the tighter shirts, but only because I am 6' and anything that isn't made for someone at least 5'10" or more usually hits me all weird. The tighter tops (especially the long ones) make me feel like less of a freak of nature....but I do have the doughnut thing going on right now so even they don't work. Wish I didn't have my flabby flab to deal with!

I agree, motherhood has great stuff. I've also found some awesome stuff at consignment stores, some new with tags. Maternity clothes can be so hard to shop for, I feel your pain!

I haven't had trouble finding tops this time, but I can't find dress pants that I like to save my life. I have to dress for work and all I can find right now are capris and jeans witch are both not in the dress code. All the dress pants I find right now are mid belly coverage. I prefer the full belly coverage right from the start because with the extra fluff the mid belly pants make me look like I have 2 fat rolls instead of a baby bump.
