Soooo, I'm still a big mess deep down about this pregnancy- stressed about the possibility of loss. I decided to look up what is going on with my baby during week 13, thinking that being told that I am in the 2nd trimester would make me feel better. Instead, the first two websites I looked up said that I will be in the 2nd trimester NEXT week (babycenter and babyzone).

I am going to keep looking, but I just had to vent!

It's so frustrating how they are all different. My OB says that once you hit 12 weeks your risk of loss goes down to 2% so that's what I'm focusing on. Technically 13w3d is 1/3 of the way through the pregnancy, but at 12 weeks your baby has all the major organs and the chance of any birth defects so bad they would cause miscarriage are all formed so the chance of loss is only 2%.

I agree, its very frustrating! Based on what I read it all just depends on how you want to calculate it. Developmentally the 2nd trimester starts week 12, 1/3 of the way gestational age is 13w 3d (as Robyn said) and then there is some crazy conception calculation that doesn't make the 2nd trimester start till like week 14 sometime.

To me personally, developmentally is what is important- since the other two are based on me carrying a full 40 weeks exactly and you have no way of knowing if that will happen or not- or if you will even go past that! To me the others seem like moving targets where the development is pretty well defined.

Every website is different.... some say week 13, others say week 14. Its confusing as all heck. BUT, here's how I'm looking at it.

1st trimester: Weeks 0-12
2nd trimester: Weeks 13 - 26
3rd trimester: Weeks 27 - 40

I've noticed that a lot of the websites are a week "behind". For example, I'm 14 weeks 3 days right now. Meaning, I have completed 14 weeks and 3 days of pregnancy, putting me in my 15th week... and I'm working on completing that! One of the apps I have on my phone (What to Expect) places me in week 15 for baby development. Other apps, and websites, place me in week 14 for baby development. I don't know why they do that either, but they do. Then they go and confuse the crap outta us with their version of trimesters.

If you are 13 weeks, you've completed 13 weeks of pregnancy and are in your 14th week. By my standards, you're in your second trimester.

Rachel, I feel the same way! It's all so confusing those update things! And the What to Expect app changes your fruit in the middle of the week instead of at the week mark like the rest! It's saying I'm a peach and everything else is still saying plum.

I'm going with the same as Rachel, Week 1 of your pregnancy is days 0-6. Week 2 means you've completed one week of pregnancy and are in your second week. By that logic, you've completed 13w4d of pregnancy and are in your 14th week.

Thanks ladies! I have completed 1/3 of the pregnancy, so that feels good. I just wanted to read something that said "Congratulations- you are in your 2nd trimester!" But I still haven't found anything that says that... things must have changed since my last two. I swear I found many sites that said that at 13 weeks in the past. Oh well. I will definitely feel better on Saturday when I am officially 14 weeks and past the week when I had my latest loss.

I have been confused by this. I am going with 13 weeks 3 days for the start of the 2nd trimester. Which is about a week and a half. I was researching when trimesters start/end last nigh and everything was different and annoying me.

The inconsistency of the 2nd tri is a pet peeve of mine. All of the tickers just add to the confusion! The schedule that Rachel posted is the one I've always gone by though. I think you are well into it now!
