Oh my.... so my mom, gramma and I went down to Babies-R-Us just to check it out. None of us have ever been. And none of us want to ever go back. They are SO expensive! When I was at Target the other day looking at cribs and travel systems, I thought those prices were bad. I was wrong!

This is the crib I'm liking so far:
Delta Children's Products - Canton 4-in-1 Conver... : Target

For something similar to this ar BRU? About $500! Thats insane! They even had a demo crib on sale that was visibly damaged and marked up. They were asking $300!

Their maternity clothes on sale are the same price as Target's regular price.

They have a super small selection for bedding too. At least this store did. I was hoping they'd carry Carter bedding, but it seems they're discontinuing the sets as the only ones I could find were "discounted". And by discounted, I mean $110 for a 4 piece set.

This is the bedding set I really want! And it looks like I'll be purchasing it online.
Green Elephant Bedding by Carters - Elephant Baby Crib Bedding - c201bed

I've never been so horrified at prices before! I was hoping to at least register there, but now I feel like I shouldn't. I don't want my friends and family over-paying for things.

Such a disappointment...

The crib is beautiful! I agree about BRU prices and selection- it's a shame!

I am actually thinking of registering at Target & Walmart... Most of the items can be bought at either of those stores for a much better price.

K-Mart is good and I love them because of the layaway. I also like that any of the items I put on layaway, if they ever have a sale all I have to do is go in and tell them about the sale and they will do a price cut !

I have this on layaway right now

Yeah, their prices are pretty high. The only way I can get anything there is with a 20% off coupon. I actually found my crib and bedding at Amazon.com. They had the cheapest prices out of anywhere I looked for what I wanted.

Amber- I like Amazon too!!! I was thinking about doing a registry there too, but most people I know won't pay to have stuff shipped...

Tammy (I'll assume that's the right first name ) here there is only one K-mart but it's about 20 minutes away- they closed all but I think 2 in the state, so it might not be a good choice for a registry, unless you are doing it elsewhere too

Only problem with Target is that their return policy SUCKS! And they make it such a hassle if you don't have a receipt or gift receipt I've been picking up everything myself and shopping around for the best price.

I much prefer target to BRU, too. Only thing I'm likely to get at BRU is the car seat because they have the best selection... but even then I might just go, figure out which one fits in the car best, and buy it online for cheaper!

I agree BRU is expensive. It's fun to look around, but I don't shop there much. I have gotten some good deals when I had a nice coupon or when they were having one of their really good diaper sales, but that's about it.

I only shop with a 20% off coupon at BRU.

I will say though...I have a target crib for Mia and a more expensive crib from BRU for Nora as well as matching dressers, and I have to say the quality is a bit better in the BRU set. The material seem to be sturdier and the drawers pull out smoother, the drawers don't have any cardboard backs, etc. Not that the Target set is bad at all, just little differences I've noticed for the last 4 years.

I will say that if you have a 20% off coupon, depending on the car seat brand, BRU will be the cheapest. We got the Chicco Travel System for 20% off, which is definitely cheaper than anywhere else, since I have never seen it on sale.

I guess I'm the odd one out of the bunch...
I LOVE Babies R'Us!! There were a few things I saw that I want that were cheaper at Target or on Amazon... but other than that almost everything I have gotten for baby has been from Babies r us.

I like babies r us but some of their stuff is really expensive. The bedding I want is from the there, and I don't think it's too expensive, not much more than anywhere else I looked. I found a lot of furniture there that I like, but I won't buy it or register for it, I can't see spending that much and I don't want any else to either. I found a few things there that I want. I'm doing some of my registering there but most of my registry will be at target, because there is A LOT of stuff I want from there. Also, my sister works at target, so whatever I don't have bought for me, I can buy it there using her family discount!

We went to BRU solely to research items like car seats and play yards because they have the largest selection of in-store items. Then we went elsewhere to find the items cheaper.

Like Katherine, our Chicco travel system (bought by a friend) was cheaper with the 20% off coupon than anywhere else. When we upgraded to a Britax, we did our research at BRU and bought online during the Britax sale.

I will agree with Magda (? Meddleman ?), there will be a slight difference in quality and durability between similar cribs at BRU, Target, and a specialty furniture store. Many times, a furniture company will make the same style of crib with different levels of quality and market one at each level of pricing (BRU, Target, Wal-Mart, and specialty store) for different stores.

I like BRU Their things are a bit more expensive, but I think furniture, strollers, car seats etc are expensive in general. I just registered there yesterday for smaller things like blankets and towels

I felt the same way about BRU when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter... Maybe because I had so many things I needed? Now, I dont need as much so I am more willing to buy the things that I think seem like better quality or that I just really want, even if it's at BRU. I do usualy compare with Amazon since I gave free 2 day shipping with my prime membership.

Also, whatever you don't get from your registry BRU will send you a coupon for 10% off the remainder of your registry. So even if you don't want people to buy you a crib or carseat, etc, put it on there because you get a discount on anything you didn't get!

And Ki is right - there is a slight difference in the same crib set sold at different levels of stores. Same with any furniture really, when we were furniture shopping we saw the same bedroom set for our room at 3 different price points, slightly different in tiny areas, and the quality was definitely different!

I know they are a little more expensive for some things, but I still like BRU.
They have such a big selection and they are very close to my house, so that's a plus!
My supermarket also sells gift cards to Amazon & BRU that I get extra points if I buy, so I end up getting free gas & % off of the grocery bill, so I like to buy the gift cards & shop those 2 places for big items. It ends up being a better deal than Target (although I do wish they sold Target gift cards there--but they don't because some Targets also sell groceries so technically they are their competition).

BTW Baby stuff is cheap if you compare it to what you will spend on older kids! The big expense when they are young is diapers (and formula if you formula feed). But man, as kids get older they need more expensive stuff and their activities cost a fortune! Babyhood is comparatively cheap!
