I went in at 9 am for an induction. I had been 1cm 50% effaced for about 2 weeks. They gave me the cytocin or what ever that little pill is that they put behind the cervix. It stayed in for 4 hrs and then I asked trhe nurse if I could go for a walk. I did not want to be stuck in bed all day. DH and I went for a 15 min. walk. When I returned it was about 3:15 and my Dr came to check me . I had mad a lil progress to 3cm nothing to exciting. They then started the pitocin. 6 drops per hr is what they set it at. About 45 min later I needed to use the bathroom. THe nurse came to help since I was hooked up to the monitor and IV. As I stood up I felt some fluid run down my leg. I said I think my water just broke. While I was on the toilet she cleaned up the fliud to go look at it under the microscope to see if it was my water. Within 5 min my contractions where becoming very painful . (This is the same thing that happened with DD) I had DH call her and inform her that I wanted my epidural. SHe returned about 5 min later saying well the fliud does not look like your water. I said ok but I still want the epi. at this time it is about 4:45 I might be off a lil with the times. at 5pm the Dr that was gonna give me the epi showed up. By this time I made them turnthe pitocin OFF because my contractions where every 2 min and where very painful I was not getting any breaks. It took the Dr forever to get the epi in and once she did she could not get the medicine in. She had to get an other Dr to coem try. My pain was getting so bad. They tried giving me boluses of the medicine but that was not wotking either. The time now is prob close to 6 pm I am screaming like crazy from the pain. THis is not what I was expecting. I did NOT want another labor like DD. I started to feel like I had to push. They called a Dr in to check me. I was only 5 cm at 6pm. So they kept trying to get the epi to work. I felt like I had to push again not even 5 min later. The Dr came in and looked at me like I was crazy and that I had no idea what I was talking about. I was then 7 cm when she checked me at about 605. I kept saying I have to push I have to push. So they started to get thinhs ready after I insisted that he was coming SOON. at about 615 the room was set and ready. I had the urge to push again. They checked me and I was 9+ so the Dr said ok with the next contraction I am gonna see if i can open your cervix the rest of the way. When he put his fingers in I ended up urinating all over the bed (embaressing) and I had to push so they said I could. Next thing I know the baby is crowing and it is buring. He came out with the next push. He was born at 623 pm. Later I asked the nurse how long would you say I was actually in labor. She said well you didnt have and cervix changes until almost 330 so I would say 3 hrs. So 3hrs of hard hard hard labor basically drug free cause the epi never worked and 2 pushes he was out and perfect.
