How hard is it to find on your own?? DH has never let me get one in the past because he knows I would freak out if I couldn't find it. This will be our last baby so I kind of want to splurge on something for me. What brand do you girls have that can find it easily?

I would wait till your 10wks. If you want a very good one, I rented mine from babybeat.com. Their expensive, but probably better than my OB's! Alot of girls get the Sono B one (dont know the exact name) and give great reviews.

Depending on your body type (thin build or large build), position of your uterus (tilts forward or back) will make a large difference on when you find it. I did find my baby's h/b at 8w1d this time, but it was very difficult. By 9wks a bit easier (still had times I could not find it, here and there) and now, by 10wks, much easier. Im a thin build with my uterus tilting toward the front. Making it more optimum for me to find it.

Good luck, cant wait to here about your first time finding it!

it took me awhile to find so i would suggest waiting because i was getting concerned when we werent easily able to find it and i did not like that feeling but once you find it, it is so sweet. I do not plan to try again til later so it would be easier to detect.

I have gotten one from babybeats each time. I dont remember when i found it with them, mommy brain. I said I wasnt going to get one this time but after my last appt I changed my mind. I should have mine by Wednesday at the latest. Most websites offer the same quality its just a personal preference. This is the first time I ordered one with a display. 10w is about average but thrre are so many variables. Once I feel movement consistently I send it back.

I bought a Baby Sound one from ebay when i was pregnant with our first son, i love it! and it was only about $30-$35

i do recommend waiting until at least 10-12 weeks before trying to find the hb at home though

I got a Sonoline B this time and I was able to pick up the heartbeat fine at 9 weeks. I've rented from Bellybeats my past two pregnancies and their dopplers are definitely better, but I was able to pick up the heartbeat just as easy with the Sonoline B as with their dopplers so I'm happy with my choice. The Bellybeats dopplers were $25-$35 a month when I rented from them, but the Sonoline B is only $60 to purchase. So much cheaper!
The cheapness factor come in with the heart rate display: I totally can't count on it. It displays a heart rate when there is no heart rate registered and it displays the wrong rate a lot of times (like it will say 110 when I know it's 160 or so). So if you go with the Sonoline B, just don't count on the heart rate display. As far as picking up the heart beat, it was the same (maybe a little more static than the rentals, but the same sensitivity for picking up the HB).

I bought a Sonoline B doppler on ebay. I havent found the heartbeat yet with it but only tried once at a few days shy of 8 weeks so I'm sure that is why.

I might try again tomorrow of wait a few more days.
