I am thinking of saying no to this test... My blood pressure is and always has been low, I eat a pretty healthy balanced diet. There is no family history, my son was small when he was born. I also feel that if they are doing a UA at each visit, they would see sugars spilling over. Last time I got really sick, nearly passed out, fell into a wall AT the dr appt, and that was in the winter. This time, since my vehicle was stolen (and not covered by insurance so Im kinda screwed for a while) I will be getting there via public transportation and walking in 90-100 degree weather. I dont see that whole experience going too well for me...
Im wondering if anyone else is considering not doing this test?

Hmm, I guess I didn't know the test was optional. I'm going to take it anyway. Since it's my first, I have no idea and want to make sure everything looks good.
I dont want to do It but I will suck it up & do what is best for the baby. I always shake then puke and have to go back a different day to do it again. Even a person is great shape that eats healthy can develop GD.

I can certainly understand why you'd want to opt out! I'd just talk to your doctor and explain your reasoning, and see if she thinks it's really necessary for you. My grandmother had GD with all 9 of her pregnancies (despite her being 4'11 and 100lbs soaking wet), so I'm going to take the test, but I'm dreading it.
I don't want to take it but I'm going to - does that count? LOL
I loathe the test, but I feel like it's important so I'm doing it. With my first, I failed the one hour (by a very small margin) and had to do the 3 hour test. I felt like I was going to pass out.
Talk to your OB because I think there might be an alternative, like a fasting blood test? I had one of those at 16 weeks because I am AMA. Good luck, I can see why you are thinking of skipping it; getting there and back in the heat without a car sounds super rough.
I actually don't react badly to the test but they recently changed practice in California (at least where I am) and only do a 2 hour which includes 3 blood draws. I have always passed with flying colors and I tend to follow a GD friendly diet anyway.
If I 'feel' like there is something changing or going on, I may change my mind but otherwise, I'll be saying no, thank you.

I didn't think this test was that bad with DS but that's probably just because everyone around me scared me into thinking it was going to be much worse. It's not the best tasting stuff but you don't have to drink a gallon of it!
I dont want the hassle of it either but I feel strongly about knowing as much as possible to make informed decisions. There is no risk in taking it so why wouldn't I want to know?
To those saying they are healthy you should be aware that there are people that are trim, fit and live a healthy lifestyle and still have GD. I have two friends that had it and you would have never guessed.
I know it can develop in anyone under any circumstances. But I also know if it was developing, sugars spill into your urine and that would catch their attention. If that happens at all, I will do what the dr asks of me.

I've already taken on as my doctor wanted to be proactive since I'm pregnant with twins and have PCOS. It will be done again when needed but I was glad to get it done since I'm at risk for it.
But I can certainly understand why you wouldn't want to get it, I agree with the others and discuss it with your doc and see what your options are.
Yep, healthy people can get it. And no prior pregnancy dictates your chances but I think everyone needs to look at the issue, what it means, what it does and what are the chances. Make the decision that's right for you.
For me, and knowing my history, I feel comfortable passing. If my doctor has another idea, I'm open to listening but I doubt they will have any qualms with it.

I really didnt think the GD tests were that bad, personally.
They gave me an ice cold orange flavored drink, it tasted just like Sunkist. I dont know what all the fuss is about, lol. I would get tested, though... There are many women who dont have GD one pregnancy, but then have it the next. And if you do have it, that isnt something you want to mess with.

That isnt necessarily true. Sugars would only be spilling if your blood glucose was super high, like above 200, at least.
